Abstract

We propose optical quantum state tomography for a single electron spin. The orientation of the spin in an arbitrary superposition state can be determined from the Faraday rotation measurements.

Theory of unitary spin rotation and spin-state tomography for a single electron and two electrons

T. Takagahara

Electron spins in semiconductor nanostructures are considered as one of the most promising candidates of the building blocks for quantum information processing. Initialization, coherent manipulation, and measurement of a single electron spin have been recently established. Here we explore the possibility to manipulate and measure by optical means the states of two electrons as a single qubit in nanostructures and propose methods of spin-state tomography based on Faraday or Kerr rotation for cases of both a single electron and two electrons, as well as a method of the Bell-state measurement for two electrons.

Spin State Transfer and Tomography in a Semiconductor

Hideo Kosaka, Hideki Shigyou, Takahiro Inagaki +4 more

We demonstrate that the coherence of the electron spin state, which was transferred from the light polarization state, is tomographically measured in a semiconductor quantum well via the light-hole excitons under in-plane magnetic field by the developed tomographic Kerr rotation method.

Highly sensitive Faraday rotation measurements are performed on an ensemble of 87Rb. The deduced interaction strength is discussed in the context of spin squeezing. We present a method for spin state tomography based on Faraday rotation measurements.

Quantum-state tomography for optical polarization with arbitrary photon numbers

A. B. Klimov, José Luis Romero, Sascha Wallentowitz

A scheme for quantum-state tomography is presented that can be performed for polarized light with an arbitrary photon-number distribution. The proposed method fills the gap between existing polarization-tomography schemes for single-photon states and for optical fields with very large photon numbers. It consists of an optical homodyne setup triggered by the outcome of a single-photon counting module. The configuration space of polarization is parametrized by Euler angles and by an additional interference parameter, whose assessment requires conditional homodyne measurements.

Polarization Characteristics of a Single Photon via Two Qubit Quantum State Tomography

Ali Akbar

We demonstrate the Faraday rotation of single photon, generated from heralded down converted non-linear optical process. The state estimation is performed by two qubit quantum state tomography for temperature range 8–100 K and results are analyzed through minimization algorithms to extract Faraday rotation and ellipticity angles which are mapped on the Bloch sphere.

Quantum State Transfer from a Single Photon to a Distant Quantum-Dot Electron Spin

Yu He, Yuming He, Yu-Jia Wei +7 more

Quantum state transfer from flying photons to stationary matter qubits is an important element in the realization of quantum networks. Self-assembled semiconductor quantum dots provide a promising solid-state platform hosting both single photon and spin, with an inherent light-matter interface. Here, we develop a method to coherently and actively control the single-photon frequency bins in superposition using electro-optic modulators, and measure the spin-photon entanglement with a fidelity of 0.796±0.020. Further, by Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type state projection on the frequency, path, and polarization degrees of freedom of a single photon, we demonstrate quantum state transfer from a single photon to a single electron spin confined in an InGaAs quantum dot, separated by 5 m. The quantum state mapping from the photon's polarization to the electron's spin is demonstrated along three different axes on the Bloch sphere, with an average fidelity of 78.5%.
