Abstract

The technique of quantum memory based on the use of a photon echo in gases is studied theoretically taking into account three-dimensional specific features in the propagation of light fields and the motion of atoms in a gas. Analytical solutions describing the effects of atomic motion and diffraction of light fields on the properties of the quantum state of light being reconstructed are obtained. Estimates of the parameters of light fields that are optimum for realizing the quantum memory based on a photon echo in gaseous media are presented.

Quantum memory on the basis of photon echo in three-level optically dense gaseous media with the Ξ-configuration of atomic transitions

Sergey A. Moiseev

A new variant of realization of quantum memory based on the use of a photon echo in an optically dense three-level gaseous medium is proposed. The use of a long-lived highly excited optical level as a storage of quantum information is the characteristic feature of the scheme proposed. This scheme of quantum memory is distinguished by reduced optical noises owing to the possibility of realizing temporal, spectral, and spatial selection of weak quantum radiation relative to the accompanying laser pulsed fields.

Photon-echo quantum memory with efficient multipulse readings

Sergey A. Moiseev, Byoung Seung HAM

We present a photon-echo quantum memory technique for manipulating quantum states of photons interacting with an atomic gas medium. The technique offers vast potential for the complete nonlocal-in-time multipulse reconstruction of a stored light as a superposition of echo fields, irradiated from the medium at different moments of time. Using this technique the dynamic control of quantum states is effectively possible by simply varying the laser parameters.

Photon-echo-based quantum memory for optical squeezed states

Miao-Xin Wu, Mingfeng Wang, Yi-Zhuang Zheng

Abstract The ability to efficiently realize storage and readout of optical squeezed states plays a key roll in continuous-variables quantum information processing. Here we study the quantum memory for squeezed state of propagating light in atoms based on the hybrid photon echo re-phasing. The optical quantum state is recorded in two sublevels of the ground state of an atomic ensemble to realize long-lived quantum memory. Taking into account the noise effect due to atomic decay, our estimation indicates that high fidelities larger than the classical fidelity threshold 81.5% are obtainable even with currently available techniques. Moreover, our result shows that the decay rate of atoms restricts the maximal fidelity. Our work provides some practical guidance for the realization of efficient and faithful photon-echo-based memory for squeezed light.

Photon-echo-based quantum memory of arbitrary light field states

Sergey A. Moiseev

We develop the general theoretical approach to an optical quantum memory (QM) based on the three-pulse photon echo (PE) with controlled reversible inhomogeneous broadening. The wavefunction of the retrieved photon echo field is derived explicitly as a function of an arbitrary input data light field taking into account the nonlinear interaction between the quantum light fields and the atomic medium. The result opens a clear possibility for quantum manipulations with arbitrary single- and multi-photon entangled light fields.
