Abstract

This paper is the first part of an investigation if the capacity of a binary-input memoryless symmetric channel under ML decoding can be achieved asymptotically by using non-binary LDPC codes. We consider (l, r)-regular LDPC codes both over finite fields and over the general linear group and compute their asymptotic binary weight distributions in the limit of large blocklength and of large alphabet size. A surprising fact, the average binary weight distributions that we obtain do not tend to the binomial one for values of normalized binary weights ¿ smaller than 1-2-l/r. However, it does not mean that non-binary codes do not achieve the capacity asymptotically, but rather that there exists some exponentially small fraction of codes in the ensemble, which contains an exponentially large number of codewords of poor weight. The justification of this fact is beyond the scope of this paper and will be given in.

Weight distribution for non-binary cluster LDPC code ensemble

In this paper, we derive the average weight distributions for the irregular non-binary cluster low-density parity-check (LDPC) code ensembles. Moreover, we give the exponential growth rate of the average weight distribution in the limit of large code length. We show that there exist (2, dc)-regular non-binary cluster LDPC code ensembles whose normalized typical minimum distances are strictly positive.

Weight Distributions of Non-binary LDPC Codes

In this paper, we study the average symbol and bit-weight distributions for ensembles of non-binary low-density parity-check codes defined on GF(2p). Moreover, we derive the asymptotic exponential growth rate of the weight distributions in the limit of large codelength. Interestingly, we show that the normalized typical minimum distance does not monotonically increase with the size of the field.

Weight distribution of non-binary LDPC codes

Weight distributions of binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are well studied. We investigate the average distributions of symbol and binary weight for non-binary LDPC code ensemble. We derive the asymptotic growth rate and its linear approximation for small weight. Moreover, we show the typical minimum distance does not monotonically increase with the size of the field where the codes are defined.

Analysis of stopping constellation distribution for irregular non-binary LDPC code ensemble

The fixed points of the belief propagation decoder for non-binary low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are referred to as stopping constellations. In this paper, we give the stopping constellation distributions for the irregular non-binary LDPC code ensembles defined over the general linear group. Moreover, we derive the exponential growth rate of the average number of the stopping constellation distributions in the limit of large code length.
