ENTANGLEMENT PROPERTIES OF A STRONGLY DRIVEN RESONANT JAYNES–CUMMINGS SYSTEM

Abstract

We describe the unitary dynamics and the entanglement properties of a system where a cavity field mode is resonantly coupled to one or two two-level atoms that are strongly driven in the cavity by a coherent field. The cavity field and one atom prepared in pure states always entangle, except when atoms are maximally polarized. The entanglement is maximum for atoms in the upper or lower state and for interaction times in the strong coupling regime. Two atoms, though correlated via the cavity field, do not entangle if the field is not accessible to measurements as in the microwave domain. However, in the optical regime, a null measurement of the cavity field can conditionally prepare an atom pair in a maximally entangled state.

MAXIMUM ENTANGLEMENT IN A JAYNES-CUMMINGS SYSTEM WITH STRONGLY DRIVEN ATOMS

Federico Casagrande, ALFREDO LULLI

We describe the entanglement of a Jaynes-Cummings system, where a two-level atom is also strongly driven by an external coherent field while it crosses a resonant cavity prepared in a coherent state. First we consider the atom-cavity field entanglement, described by the Von Neumann entropy. We find that it depends only on the interaction time and the initial atomic state. The entropy vanishes in the case of maximally polarized atom, independent of the interaction time, whereas it reaches its maximum value for atom in the upper or lower state and for long enough interaction times. Then we investigate the entanglement between two consecutive strongly driven atoms interacting with the cavity mode assumed in the vacuum state, showing that they never entangle in spite of the existence of atom-atom correlations.

Entanglement, Decoherence and Correlations in a Strongly Driven Jaynes-Cummings System

Federico Casagrande, ALFREDO LULLI

We consider the resonant interaction of a cavity mode with a two-level atom that is driven by a coherent field while it crosses the cavity. Starting from the cavity field in a coherent state, we show that the state of the system can reach the maximum entanglement after a unitary evolution for long enough interaction times. Also we illustrate how the generation of cavity field superposition states can allow, in the open system dynamics, the observation of their decoherence in atomic correlation measurements, for any initial cavity field state, and even under the combined effects of dissipation, thermal noise, and atomic pumping.

DECOHERENCE-FREE MULTIPARTITE ATOMIC ENTANGLEMENT IN A CAVITY QED SYSTEM

Matteo Bina, Federico Casagrande, ALFREDO LULLI

We present analytical results on entanglement and decoherence in a system of N strongly driven two-level atoms resonantly coupled to a dissipative cavity mode. In the specific cases of N = 3 and 4 qubits we show the existence of decoherence-free subspaces for the whole system and/or the atomic subsystem and we discuss examples where a multipartite qubit entanglement remains preserved. Also we illustrate the conditional preparation of cat-like states of the cavity field and the generation of atomic correlations.

ENTANGLEMENT DYNAMICS IN THE THREE-ATOM TAVIS-CUMMINGS MODEL

Jian-Song Zhang, Aixi Chen

We investigate the entanglement dynamics in a quantum system consisting of three two-level atoms resonantly coupled to a single mode electromagnetic field in a cavity. An explicit analytical solution of the system is obtained and the entanglement of the system is studied with the help of the concurrence and tangle. It is also shown that the W states could be generated if the interaction time of the two-level atoms and the cavity field is chosen appropriately.

EFFECTS OF CAVITY-FIELD STATISTICS ON ATOMIC ENTANGLEMENT IN THE JAYNES–CUMMINGS MODEL

Biplab Ghosh, A. S. Majumdar, N. Nayak

We study the entanglement properties of a pair of two-level atoms going through a cavity one after another. The initial joint state of two successive atoms that enter the cavity is unentangled. Interactions mediated by the cavity photon field result in the final two-atom state being of a mixed entangled type. We consider the field statistics of the Fock state field, and the thermal field, respectively, inside the cavity. The entanglement of formation of the joint two-atom state is calculated for both these cases as a function of the Rabi angle gt. We present a comparitive study of two-atom entanglement for low and high mean photon number cases corresponding to the different fields statistics.

Entanglement and fluctuations in cavity quantum electrodynamics (Invited Paper)

We explore the entanglement between a single atom and a single, resonant field mode of a driven optical cavity, focusing on the strong driving regime. We show that, in the absence of spontaneous emission, there are special initial conditions that lead to approximately disentangled trajectories, whereas spontaneous emission results in coherent superpositions of such trajectories that may lead to (transient) near-maximally entangled atom-field states. We also discuss the possibility of using a special "asymmetric" field correlation function to track the time evolution of this entanglement.
