A model for the Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter is presented. Our model predicts a bandwidth of 0.6 GHz and a transmission peak of 0.98 for a filter operating on the Cs (D(2)) line. The model includes hyperfine effects and is valid for arbitrary magnetic fields.
We propose a Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) based on a rare-earth ion doped crystal. We present theoretical analyses for the solid-state FADOF transmission. Our theoretical model predicts a maximum transmission efficiency of 71 and a double-peaked transmission spectrum with a bandwidth of 6 GHz under current experimental conditions. Our proposal may have important applications in optical communications.
The use of Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filtering in edge filters was proposed, which can cover the shortages of edge filters in using resonant transitions in the ~(127)I_2 and ~(129)I_2 molecules. The characteristics of filtering and frequency tuning of Faraday anomalous dispersion spectrum of Cs 6S_(1/2)7P_(1/2) transition were analyzed theoretically. The results show that there are two steep transmission peaks in line-wing symmetrically in the Faraday anomalous dispersion spectrum of Cs atoms,by adjusting the temperature of atomic vapor cell and the external magnetic field strength, the central frequencies of the transmission peaks in line-wing can be tuned to the desired locations.
The characteristics of a potassium Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter operating on the blue and near infrared transitions are calculated. The results show that the filter can be designed to provide high transmission, very narrow pass bandwidth, and low equivalent noise bandwidth. The Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) provides a narrow pass bandwidth (about GHz) optical filter for laser communications, remote sensing, and lidar. The general theoretical model for the FADOF has been established in our previous paper. In this paper, we have identified the optimum operational conditions for a potassium FADOF operating on the blue and infrared transitions. The signal transmission, bandwidth, and equivalent noise bandwidth (ENBW) are also calculated.
A near infrared potassium Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter was theoretically studied for the transition, including hyperfine ef fects. In the paper the Zeeman splittings of potassium were calculate d for the given transition, that is, diagonalizing the disturbed matri x, and finding out the Zeeman sublevels position and transition freque ncies. Next we obtain an expression for the bulk polarizability tensor . Finally we acquire the transition coefficient relating to the polari zability tensor. The effect of temperature and magnetic field on prope rties of Faraday optical filter were investigated. The optimum filter operating condition was also obtained. The single peak bandwidth of th e optical filter is about 0.86GHz, equivalent noise band width is 2.4G Hz. The transmission is approximately 94.1 percent under the optimum c ondit ion.
We demonstrate a Cs FADOF (Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter) with a single transmission peak resonant with the 6S(1/2), F = 4 → 7P(3/2), F' = 3, 4, 5 transition at 455 nm. The filter achieves a single peak transmission of 86%. With the technique of saturated absorption spectra, we obtain the bandwidth of the single peak, which is 1.5 GHz. While most of other FADOFs operate at frequencies far from absorption, the filter we have realized can provide light exactly resonant with atomic transitions with a high transmission. We also find that, at a particular temperature, we can achieve a single transmission peak rather than many peaks far from absorption by changing the strength of magnetic field. This technique can also be applied to other alkali atoms.
