Properties of the Quantum Double Oscillator

Abstract

Abstract A formalism is presented to obtain approximate analytic expressions for the eigenstates and eigenvalues of a quantum double oscillator (QDO). The matrix elements of a large class of operators with respect to states of different double oscillators result as finite sums of explicit functions of the respective parameters. Matrix elements between states of a harmonic oscillator and a double oscillator are also determined. The analytic expressions were used to calculate Franck-Condon factors for electronic transitions including double oscillator anharmonicities.

Franck-Condon Factors for Harmonic Oscillators- An Operator Approach

Chen‐Shiung Hsue

We give an explicit derivation of the Franck-Condon factors for harmonic oscillators in the general case where both the origin and the frequencies are changed for one and two dimensions, using operator manipulations in our two-step method. We also discuss the case with rotated coordinates in the excited states of two dimensional transitions. The method is straightforward and can be easily generalized to higher dimensions.

Quantum Theory of Anharmonic Oscillators: Some Exact Relations between Matrix Elements and Their Use for Various Approximation Methods

K. Yamazaki

This is an investigation of an anharmonic oscillator characterized by the potential (ω02/ 2) q2 + λ′ q4. By using the exact relations obtained by evaluating ≪i|[H, O]∓|j > where O is an arbitrary operator, H is our total Hamiltonian and |i > and |j > are exact eigenstates of H, we derive an exact recurrence formula. This formula allows us to express τ-functions with a higher power of the variables through τ-functions with a lower power of the variables and energy eigenvalues. In this way we derive several exact relations, which are, in a sense, generalizations of the virial theorem and sum rules (Eqs. (4·5), (4·6) and (5·4)). These exact relations are the central equaions of this paper. On the basis of these exact relations we propose our “nearest neighbour level” (N. N. L) approximation, which seems to provide a good approximation scheme. We can also use our exact relations to test the validity of various approximation methods, and as an example, we discuss the “New-Tamm-Dancoff” (N. T. D)-type of approximation in detail.

The Harmonic Oscillator

Owen L. de Lange, R. E. Raab

Abstract In both classical and quantum physics the harmonic oscillator is one of the most important physical systems [1–4]. Furthermore, because of the simplicity and symmetry of the Hamiltonian operator, the quantum mechanical oscillator is particularly suited to analysis by abstract operator methods. For this reason the study of the one dimensional oscillator is a useful introduction to the application of operator methods in quantum mechanics. In Sections 2.1–2.4 we use these methods to determine energy eigenvalues and eigenkets, and matrix elements; the analysis is extended to isotropic multidimensional oscillators in Section 2.10. Quasiclassical states of the oscillator are discussed in Section 2.5. In Section 2.6 shift operators are used to calculate wave functions. In Sections 2.7–2.11 we discuss some applications of the theory of the oscillator.

Multidimensional harmonic oscillator matrix elements

Francisco Marcelo Fernández, Richard H. Tipping

Multidimensional harmonic oscillator matrix elements of arbitrary products of exponentials for operators containing only linear and quadratic terms in the creation and annihilation operators are obtained. A simple and straightforward method is presented that leads to recurrence relations and generating functions for such matrix elements. Results are shown to be general enough to cover the cases of Franck–Condon overlaps, transition probabilities for time-dependent harmonic oscillators, and correlation functions for electronic spectra.

New Deformation of quantum oscillator algebra: Representation and some application

Sama Arjika, Dine Ousmane Samary, Ezinvi Baloïtcha +1 more

This work addresses the study of the oscillator algebra, defined by four parameters $p$, $q$, $α$, and $ν$. The time-independent Schrödinger equation for the induced deformed harmonic oscillator is solved; explicit analytic expressions of the energy spectrum are given. Deformed states are built and discussed with respect to the criteria of coherent state construction. Various commutators involving annihilation and creation operators and their combinatorics are computed and analyzed. Finally, the correlation functions of matrix elements of main normal and antinormal forms, pertinent for quantum optics analysis, are computed.

Explicit form for the kernel operator matrix elements in eigenfunction basis of harmonic oscillator

E. E. Perepelkin, Б. И. Садовников, Наталья Германовна Иноземцева +1 more

Abstract In this paper, the matrix elements explicit expressions for the kernel operator in the harmonic oscillator eigenfunctions basis are obtained. The matrix elements are expressed in terms of the two complex variables new polynomials that were constructed in this paper. In the particular case, new polynomials degenerate into Laguerre polynomials. The diagonal elements of the kernel operator matrix are the Wigner functions of the harmonic oscillator, which do not introduce dissipation into the quantum system. The off-diagonal elements contain frequency oscillations responsible for dissipations in the quantum systems. Using the explicit representation of the kernel operator matrix elements, we construct the distributions of the Wigner function in the phase space for quantum systems.
