Charge- and pair-density-wave orders in the one-band Hubbard model from dynamical mean field theory

Sidhartha Dash, David Sénéchal

We study the charge-density-wave order and its competition with superconductivity in the one-band Hubbard model for high-${T}_{c}$ superconducting cuprates. We use cluster dynamical mean field theory at $T=0$. The one-band Hubbard model contains only copper atoms, and a physical charge-density wave with charge excesses located on the oxygen atoms manifests itself as a bond-density wave (BDW) within this context. It arises purely out of local correlation effects and also leads to an ${s}^{\ensuremath{'}}$-wave pair-density wave in the presence of $d$-wave superconductivity. The $d$-wave BDW is suppressed on increasing $U$ and is favored on increasing the magnitude of the second-neighbor hopping ${t}^{\ensuremath{'}}$. Further, the $d$-wave BDW order is weakened when in competition with superconductivity, as seen in experiments. Additionally, it behaves quite differently on varying $U$ in the superconducting state compared to the normal state.

Quantum Monte Carlo study of the pairing symmetry competition in the Hubbard model

To shed light into the pairing mechanism of possible spin triplet superconductors ${(\text{TMTSF})}_{2}X$ and ${\text{Sr}}_{2}{\text{RuO}}_{4}$, we study the competition among various spin singlet and triplet pairing channels in the Hubbard model by calculating the pairing interaction vertex using the ground state quantum Monte Carlo technique. We model ${(\text{TMTSF})}_{2}X$ by a quarter-filled quasi-one-dimensional (quasi-1D) Hubbard model, and the $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ band of ${\text{Sr}}_{2}{\text{RuO}}_{4}$ by a two-dimensional (2D) Hubbard model with a band filling of $\ensuremath{\sim}4∕3$. For the quasi-1D system, we find that triplet $f$-wave pairing not only dominates over the triplet $p$ wave in agreement with the spin fluctuation theory, but also looks unexpectedly competitive against $d$ waves. For the 2D system, although the results suggest the presence of an attractive interaction in the triplet pairing channels, the $d$-wave pairing interaction is found to be larger than those of the triplet channels.

d -Wave Pairing in the Presence of Long-Range Coulomb Interactions

Gökhan Esirgen, H.-B. Schüttler, N. E. Bickers

The one-band extended Hubbard model in two dimensions near band-filling $\frac{1}{2}$ is solved in the fluctuation exchange approximation, including the long-range ( $1/r$) part of the Coulomb interaction, up to 4th-neighbor distance. Our results suggest that ${d}_{{x}^{2}{\ensuremath{-}y}^{2}}$ pairing in the Hubbard model is robust against the inclusion of long-range Coulomb interactions with moderate 1st-neighbor repulsion strength ${V}_{1}$. ${d}_{{x}^{2}{\ensuremath{-}y}^{2}}$ pairing is suppressed only at large ${V}_{1}$ ( $\ensuremath{\gtrsim}0.25U--0.4U$), due to incipient charge density wave instabilities.

It arises purely out of local correlation effects and also leads to an ${s}^{\ensuremath{'}}$-wave pair-density wave in the presence of ddd-wave superconductivity. The ddd-wave BDW is suppressed on increasing UUU and is favored on increasing the magnitude of the second-neighbor hopping ${t}^{\ensuremath{'}}$. Further, the ddd-wave BDW order is weakened when in competition with superconductivity, as seen in experiments. Additionally, it behaves quite differently on varying UUU in the superconducting state compared to the normal state.
