Eigenvalues of the stability matrix for Parisi solution of the long-range spin-glass

Abstract

We study, near ${T}_{c}$, the stability of Parisi's solution for the long-range spin-glass. In addition to the discrete, "longitudinal" spectrum found by Thouless, de Almeida, and Kosterlitz, we find "transverse" bands depending on one or two continuous parameters, and a host of zero modes occupying most of the parameter space. All eigenvalues are non-negative, proving that Parisi's solution is marginally stable.

Equilibrium Dynamics of Infinite-Range Quantum Spin Glasses in a Field

Maria Tikhanovskaya, Subir Sachdev A, Rhine Samajdar

We determine the low-energy spectrum and Parisi replica-symmetry-breaking function for the spin-glass phase of the quantum Ising model with infinite-range random exchange interactions and transverse and longitudinal ( h ) fields. We show that, for all h , the spin-glass state has full replica symmetry breaking and the local spin spectrum is gapless, with a spectral density that vanishes linearly with frequency. These results are obtained using an action functional—argued to yield exact results at low frequencies—that expands in powers of a spin-glass order parameter, which is bilocal in time, and a matrix in replica space. We also present the exact solution of the infinite-range spherical quantum p -rotor model at nonzero h : here, the spin-glass state has one-step replica symmetry breaking and gaplessness only appears after imposition of an additional marginal stability condition. Possible connections to experiments on random arrays of trapped Rydberg atoms are noted. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Stability and susceptibility in Parisi's solution of a spin glass model

D. J. Thouless, J. R. L. de Almeida, J. Michael Kosterlitz

The stability of Parisi's solution (1979-80) of the infinite-range spin glass model is examined near the transition temperature. It is found that the quadratic terms in the variation of the free energy are all non-positive. The free energy is only a local maximum with respect to q(x) if q is constrained to be a monotonic function of x. The connection between replica symmetry breaking and failure of linear response theory for magnetic susceptibility is shown in more detail. It is shown that the order parameter susceptibility is divergent, as expected, in the spin glass phase.

Stability of the quantum Sherrington-Kirkpatrick spin glass model

A. P. Young

I study in detail the quantum Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) model, i.e., the infinite-range Ising spin glass in a transverse field, by solving numerically the effective one-dimensional model that the quantum SK model can be mapped to in the thermodynamic limit. I find that the replica symmetric solution is unstable down to zero temperature, in contrast to some previous claims, and so there is not only a line of transitions in the (longitudinal) field-temperature plane (the de Almeida-Thouless, AT, line) where replica symmetry is broken, but also a quantum de Almeida-Thouless (QuAT) line in the transverse field-longitudinal field plane at T=0. If the QuAT line also occurs in models with short-range interactions its presence might affect the performance of quantum annealers when solving spin glass-type problems with a bias (i.e., magnetic field).

Statics and dynamics of the infinite-range Ising spin glass model

N D Mackenzie, A. P. Young

The Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (SK) spin glass model (1975) is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Below T c there is a spectrum of relaxation times which diverge like exp(cN 1 4/) as N, the number of spins, tends to infinity. In zero field, h, there is one more timescale, tau eg , which is the time to turn over all the spins. Averaging over samples (ln tau eg ) j (=ln tau eg ) varies as N 1 2/. However, ln tau eg is not a self-averaging quantity and there are large sample-to-sample variations even for N to infinity . For h>>h*=T/N 1 2/, where T is the temperature, fluctuations on timescale tau eg may not occur. Above the Almeida-Thouless line (1978) relaxation times are finite and the SK solution is correct. Below this line, the results agree well with Parisi's theory (1983) if the latter is correctly interpreted.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL QUANTUM SPIN GLASS THEORY (Ⅱ)——STABILITY ANALYSIS

Yi Lin, K.L. Yao, (1)华中理工大学物理系和激光技术国家实验室,武汉430074; (2)中国高等科学技术中心(世界实验室)

Based on our previous work, introducing an extended Goldbart ansatz, all eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix in our three-dimensional spin glass model are obtained. It is found that the vanishing smallest eigenvalue λ3 has two solutions, which correspond to the Gabay-Toulouse (GT) upper and Almeida-Thouless (AT) lower critical lines respectively. Finally, the relation between our theory and other method is discussed.
