Role of delay in superradiance kinetics

Abstract

An analysis is made of superradiance in an extended two-level system. A new quantum-mechanical approach is proposed for the investigation of the evolution in space and time. A new system of integrodifferential equations is obtained and this system predicts a wider superradiance pulse and thus improves the agreement with experimental data.

On the quantum theory of superradiance in two-and three-level macroscopic systems

Eugene K. Bashkirov, S. V. Petrushkin

Modified quantum kinetic equations for the superradiance in two-and three-level macroscopic systems that interact with electromagnetic fields are derived based on the method for elimination of the boson variables. It is demonstrated that the theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the experimental data.

Quantum theory of superradiance in two-level and three-level systems

Eugene K. Bashkirov, S. V. Petrushkin

The chain of kinetic equations for two-level and three-level macroscopic systems, interacting with the electromagnetic field, is obtained on the basis of the method of elimination of the boson variables, taking a new type of decoupling for three-particle correlators into account. These equations yield a better description of experimentally observed shape of super-radiant pulse than the standard theories based on the decoupling of the Tyablyakov's type.

Superradiance in an inhomogeneously broadened atomic system

Ronald E. Jodoin, L. Mandeļ

The problem of superradiant emission from a small atomic system is treated under conditions in which the effects of inhomogeneous broadening are important, as in a solid. The treatment is semiclassical, with the assumption that all atoms see the same electromagnetic field. A set of coupled integrodifferential equations is obtained characterizing the state of each atom of resonant frequency \ensuremath{\omega} at time $t$. It is found that, in general, atoms of different frequencies evolve differently in time, whether or not they start from the same initial state. The effect of the inhomogeneous broadening is generally to delay the onset and to reduce the amplitude of the superradiant pulse. Some effects of inhomogeneous broadening are manifest even when the inhomogeneous lifetime is much longer than the usual superradiance time. When the atomic system starts in the ground state and is then exposed to a coherent excitation pulse, superradiant effects can appear even when the inhomogeneous lifetime is very short compared with the usual superradiance time.

Superradiance in the three-level systems taking into account a pump

Eugene K. Bashkirov

The chain of kinetic equations for a three-level extended macroscopic system interacting with an electromagnetic field is obtained on the basis of the method of elimination of the boson variables taking into account the coherent pumping processes. On its basis the conventional superradiance of the system is examined in the markovian limit. The relations between the parameters of the superradiant pulse and those of the pumping pulse of arbitrary duration are obtained. The possibility of description of the triggering superradiance is discussed.

Superradiance of two-component quasiresonant media

Anatolii V Andreev, P. V. Polevoy

An investigation is made of the dynamics of the superradiance of two-component quasiresonant media with similar frequencies of superradiant transitions. It is shown that variation of the detuning of the frequencies of the components can increase the peak intensity of a superradiance pulse and simultaneously reduce its temporal width. The range of the detuning of the frequencies of the components ensuring generation of the strongest and shortest superradiance pulse is determined. It is demonstrated that superradiance pulses emitted by two-component quasiresonant media may be delayed by a considerable time, which is significantly longer than the temporal width of the superradiance pulse itself.
