Abstract

We present the development and operation of a tunable, frequency-stabilized, narrow-bandwidth source of entangled photon pairs, which can be tuned to the two D–P transitions in Ca+ ions at 850 and 854 nm. The source is based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion in periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) followed by tunable optical filters. Its output bandwidth of 22 MHz coincides with the absorption bandwidth of the calcium ions. Its spectral power density is 1.0 generated pairs (s MHz mW)−1. Here, we report details of the setup which was first described in Haase et al (2009 Opt. Lett. 34 55).

Tunable narrowband entangled photon pair source for resonant single-photon single-atom interaction

We present a tunable, frequency-stabilized, narrow-bandwidth source of frequency-degenerate, entangled photon pairs. The source is based on spontaneous parametric downconversion in periodically poled KTiOPO(4). Its wavelength can be stabilized to 850 or 854 nm, thus allowing to address two transitions in (40)Ca(+) ions. Its output bandwidth of 22 MHz coincides with the absorption bandwidth of the calcium ions. Its spectral power density is 1.0 generated pairs/(s MHz mW).

A pair photon source for heralded single-photon - single-atom interaction

Albrecht Haase, Nicolás Piro, Jürgen Eschner +1 more

We present the design and set-up of a narrow-bandwidth source of entangled photon pairs, which will allow us to address the transitions D3/2-P3/2 and D5/2-P3/2 in 40Ca+ ions at 850 and 854 nm wavelength, respectively. The source has been designed to emit photons with a high spectral power density into the absorption window of the Calcium ions, which has a bandwidth of ~20 MHz. The design has been chosen such that the produced photon rate and the output bandwidth can be varied independently, to be adapted to the experimental needs. Its application will be an experiment that studies methods of probabilistic entanglement of distantly trapped single atoms.

An ultra-broadband continuously-tunable polarization-entangled photon-pair source covering the C+L telecom bands based on a single type-II PPKTP crystal

Zhi‐Yuan Zhou, Yun-Kun Jiang, Dong-Sheng Ding +1 more

The first experimental preparation is reported of an ultra-broadband continuously-tunable highly polarization-entangled photon-pair source via spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a single type-II phase-matched bulk periodically-poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystal. A tuning band of more than 60 nm for the down-converted photons is achieved experimentally, which covers the C+L telecom bands. The photon pair generation rate is about 1.63 × 104 (s mW nm)−1. The calculated S parameter values of CHSH inequality between 2.60 ± 0.04 (minimum) and 2.72 ± 0.07 (maximum) over the whole tunable range clearly demonstrate high entanglement of the source. In combination with the dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) technique, our source could be used to enhance the transmission capacity of a communication channel in the field of quantum communication.

We present a tunable, frequency-stabilized, narrow-bandwidth source of frequency-degenerate, entangled photon pairs, which can address the two D-P transitions in 40Ca+ ions. We also demonstrate single ion-single photon interaction by the detection of quantum jumps.

Widely-tunable, spectrally pure, high efficient photon pairs generation at telecom wavelength

Rui‐Bo Jin, Ryōsuke Shimizu, Kentaro Wakui +2 more

Photon source is one of the fundamental bricks for quantum information and computation systems. A widely-tunable, highly efficient and spectrally pure photon source would be very useful for such applications. In this paper, we present such a source based on spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) in a periodically poled KTiOPO4(PPKTP) crystal.

An efficient, tunable, and robust source of narrow-band photon pairs at the 87 Rb D1 line

Roberto Mottola, Gianni Buser, Chris Müller +6 more

We present an efficient and robust source of photons at the 87 Rb D1-line (795 nm) with a narrow bandwidth of δ = 226(1) MHz. The source is based on non-degenerate, cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a monolithic optical parametric oscillator far below threshold. The setup allows for efficient coupling to single mode fibers. A heralding efficiency of η heralded = 45(5) % is achieved, and the uncorrected number of detected photon pairs is 3.8 × 10 3 /(s mW). For pair generation rates up to 5 × 10 5 /s, the source emits heralded single photons with a normalized, heralded, second-order correlation function g c ( 2 ) < 0.01 . The source is intrinsically stable due to the monolithic configuration. Frequency drifts are on the order of δ /20 per hour without active feedback on the emission frequency. We achieved fine-tuning of the source frequency within a range of >2 GHz by applying mechanical strain.
