Generalized renormalization scheme in the Ginzburg-Landau-Wilson model

Abstract

For the n-vector model of the general type a renormalization-group (RG) scheme in momentum space is developed. Using this scheme we obtain a generalized exact equation of the renormalization group. The main idea of this approach is not to allow the zero-order critical Hamiltonian to move away from the critical surface under the influence of the RG transformation. The equation found differs from the known ones in that all redundant operators are excluded. On the basis of the developed approach we argue that critical exponents are functionals of some function introducing the cutoff into the phase-transition theory.

Exact renormalization group equation for systems of arbitrary symmetry free of redundant operators

Alexander A. Lisyansky, Demetris Nicolaides

A generalized exact renormalization group (RG) equation for the Ginzburg–Landau–Wilson functional of an arbitrary symmetry, containing invariants of all orders, with nonlocal vertices is derived. Unlike other RG equations which contain an infinite number of redundant operators, the equation derived is free of them.

Critical exponents predicted by grouping of Feynman diagrams inϕ4 model

J. Kaupužs

Different perturbation theory treatments of the Ginzburg-Landau phase transition model are discussed. This includes a criticism of the perturbative renormalization group (RG) approach and a proposal of a novel method providing critical exponents consistent with the known exact solutions in two dimensions. The usual perturbation theory is reorganized by appropriate grouping of Feynman diagrams of φ4 model with O(n) symmetry. As a result, equations for calculation of the two-point correlation function are obtained which allow to predict possible exact values of critical exponents in two and three dimensions by proving relevant scaling properties of the asymptotic solution at (and near) the criticality. The new values of critical exponents are discussed and compared to the results of numerical simulations and experiments.

Renormalization Group Equation for Critical Phenomena

Franz Wegner, Anthony Houghton

An exact renormalization equation is derived by making an infinitesimal change in the cutoff in momentum space. From this equation the expansion for critical exponents around dimensionality 4 and the limit $n=\ensuremath{\infty}$ of the $n$-vector model are calculated. We obtain agreement with the results of Wilson and Fisher, and with the spherical model.

Critical exponents for higher order phase transitions: Landau theory and RG flow

Joydeep Chakravarty, Diksha Jain

Abstract In this work, we define and calculate critical exponents associated with higher order thermodynamic phase transitions. Such phase transitions can be classified into two classes: with or without a local order parameter. For phase transitions involving a local order parameter, we write down the Landau theory and calculate critical exponents using the saddle point approximation. Further, we investigate fluctuations about the saddle point and demarcate when such fluctuations dominate over saddle point calculations by introducing the generalized Ginzburg criteria. We use Wilsonian renormalization group (RG) to derive scaling forms for observables near criticality and obtain scaling relations between the critical exponents. Afterwards, we find out fixed points of the RG flow using the one-loop beta function and calculate critical exponents about the fixed points for third and fourth order phase transitions.

Nonperturbative renormalization-group calculations for continuum spin systems

Geoffrey R. Golner

Wilson's exact smooth-cutoff renormalization-group (RG) equation for continuum spin Landau-Ginsburg models is shown to be equivalent to an easily constructed, infinite set of partial differential equations that provide a natural system of successive approximation for numerical calculation. It differs from other RG approaches in that an infinite number of couplings are included at each level of approximation. By way of illustration, preliminary results are presented for Ising-model critical exponents in three dimensions.
