Non-classical and Noise Properties for Light Through a Nonlinear Fibre with Gain

Abstract

In this paper we discuss the non-classical and noise properties for a beam of coherent light through a nonlinear fibre with gain, and give the exact solutions of the Heisenberg-Langevin equations of motion of the operators, under the condition that the initial state is a two-mode coherent or two-mode squeezing vacuum state. Detailed numerical analysis of the results is performed and presented graphically. We find that squeezing and antibunching for the above mentioned state occur in some conditions, but no sub-Poissonian photon statistics occur. For example, when the average photon number of 1 mode is greater than the average photon number of 2 mode, the 1 mode is bunching, whereas the 2 mode is antibunching; the signal-to-noise ratio for a mode of radiation field can reach maximum values at an average photon number n¯ or at a moment t.

Quantum statistics of a nonlinear asymmetric coupler with strong pumping

Jan Peřina, Jan Peřina

We derive the quantum statistical properties of light beams involved in an asymmetric nonlinear coupler composed of a linear waveguide and a nonlinear waveguide operating using second harmonic generation. Examining quadrature and integrated intensity fluctuations, photon number distribution, reduced factorial moments and the uncertainty product, we demonstrate non-classical behaviour of single and compound modes. We show that squeezing of vacuum fluctuations, sub-Poissonian photon statistics and oscillations in photon number distribution created by nonlinear dynamics can be transferred to the linear signal mode. Also effects of non-classical incident beams and smoothing effects of external noise are demonstrated.

Statistics of light in Raman and Brillouin nonlinear couplers

Jan Peřina, J Perina

Statistical properties of optical fields in nonlinear couplers composed of two waveguides in which Raman or Brillouin processes (with classical pumping) are in operation and which are mutually connected through the mutual Stokes and/or anti-Stokes linear interactions are investigated within the framework of a generalized superposition of coherent fields and quantum noise. Heisenberg equations describing the couplers are solved both analytically under special conditions and numerically in general cases. Regimes for nonclassical properties of optical fields, such as sub-Poissonian photon-number statistics, negative reduced moments of integrated intensity and squeezing of quadrature fluctuations are discussed for the cases of single and compound fields. General results are compared with those from the short-length approximation.

Non-classical Properties of Two-mode SU(1, 1) Coherent States

Luc Gilles, P. L. Knight

We examine the non-classical properties of two-mode coherent states based on different unitary irreducible representations of SU(1, 1). Such states are generated by the action of the two-mode squeezing operator on initial states of the field containing arbitrary numbers of photons in each of the two modes. If the initial state of the field is a two-mode vacuum state, the final state is of course the two-mode squeezed vacuum. An initial occupation generalizes the idea of a squeezed vacuum to the SU(1, 1) coherent states. We show that fields in such states have remarkable quantum properties such as sub-Poissonian statistics, violations of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, strong correlations in the photon number fluctuations and squeezing. Using information theory formalism, we show that these coherent states are less correlated than the usual two-mode squeezed vacuum. Moreover, we show that an initial coherent amplitude contribution, in a large amplitude limit, can result in the reduction of correlations between modes.

Quantum analysis of sub harmonic generation with two-mode coherent light

Alemayehu Getahun Kumela, Habtamu Dagnaw Mekonnen

In this work the statistical and squeezing properties of light-driven by sub-harmonic generation with two-mode coherent light are studied. With interaction Hamiltonian of both two-mode coherent and sub harmonic generation, we have driven master equation of system under consideration. From the master equation, the solution of the C-number Langevin equation is derived. It helps us to solve quadrature variance, quadrature squeezing, mean, and variance of photon number for light produced by sub-harmonic generation with the two-mode coherent light state. And the result shows that; the squeezing occurs in plus quadrature with the maximum squeezing of 87%. The photon statistics of the system under consideration is subpoissonian in which both mean & variance are increasing as kappa increase.

PHOTON-BUNCHING, PHOTON-ANTIBUNCHING AND NONCLASSICAL PHOTON STATISTICS OF COHERENT LIGHT COUPLED TO A CUBIC NONLINEAR MEDIUM

Anirban Pathak, Swapan Mandal

The quantum statistical properties of a single mode of the radiation field, prepared in the coherent state, interacting with a nonlinear medium of inversion symmetry are studied with the help of the usual two photon correlation function for zero time delay. We report the photon antibunching and sub-Poissonian photon statistics in addition to the usual photon bunching and the super-Poissonian photon statistics for an input vacuum field. The manipulation of the phase of input coherent light gives rise to the well known self induced transparency. The possible physical explanations for these events are presented.

Non-classical properties and entanglement of two-mode nonlinear semi-coherent states

Azam Anbaraki, Davood Afshar

Abstract Two-mode nonlinear semi-coherent states and their even and odd superpositions are defined. Their non-classical properties, including photon statistics and squeezing, are then evaluated. We use the Mandel parameter and the second-order coherence function to study sub-Poissonian photon statistics and the photon antibunching effect. By calculating the variance of two-mode quadrature operators, we evaluate the squeezing effect for the introduced states. Next, we examine entanglement using concurrence. We have found that all states display non-classical properties within certain ranges of the parameters involved. The calculation of concurrence demonstrates that all states are entangled within specific ranges of parameters.
