Abstract

We present a detailed study of the bound-state phonon-mediated resonances in atom-surface scattering that extends our earlier work [\ifmmode \check{S}\else \v{S}\fi{}iber and Gumhalter, Phys. Rev. B 71, 081401 (2005)]. Previous results obtained within the restricted Fock space coupled-channel algorithm are reconsidered in view of the enlargement and refinement of the basis of quantum states used in the calculation. The convergence demonstrated in this procedure reinforces the usefulness of the developed algorithm.

Reply to "Comment on 'Modified quantum-speed-limit bounds for open quantum dynamics in quantum channels'"

Xin Liu, Wei Wu, Chao Wang

The authors of the comment[Phys. Rev. A 97, 046101 (2018)] raise that the inconsistency in calculating some common quantum-speed-limit (QSL) bounds, which is presented in our paper [Phys. Rev. A 95, 052118 (2017)], does not exist in their paper [Phys. Rev. A 94, 052125 (2016)]. Therefore they insist that their criticism to some QSL bounds is still valid. We demonstrate all the QSL bounds mentioned in the comment are similar in essence. We also show the inconsistency which is presented in their original paper can not be used to support their criticism. Furthermore, we exhibit although the inconsistency presented in our paper is not a same one to which is presented by the authors of the comment, it exists and be unavoidable in their example. Accordingly, we believe the result in our paper is usable in numerical calculations.

Two-phonon assisted selective adsorption

Wilhelm Brenig, Christian Mosch

The bound-state-plus-two-phonon resonances in scattering of atoms by surface phonons are considered in detail. We compute the dependence of single phonon transition probabilities on the initial energy performing large-scale coupled channel calculations. It turns out that the resonances in this case are relatively strong and sharp. Furthermore, due to a new implementation we are able to consider two- and three-phonon resonances in the scattering in full detail. It turns out the two phonon resonances should be observable but three phonon resonances not.

Reply to “Comment on ‘Perturbative operator approach to high-precision light-pulse atom interferometry' ”

Christian Ufrecht, Enno Giese

Recently, we introduced [C. Ufrecht and E. Giese, Phys. Rev. A 101, 053615 (2020)] a technique to calculate the phase of light-pulse atom interferometers caused by the presence of perturbation potentials and underlined its power by an illustrative example. In the preceding Comment [B. Dubetsky, Phys. Rev. A 102, 027301 (2020)], it was pointed out that other, less idealized situations could have been calculated as well. Our Reply emphasizes that our method is correct, the results from our example can be trivially generalized to other perturbations, and intricate effects of local environments can be even more prominent but also treated by our technique.

Accounting for the mistake in our earlier analysis [Phys. Rev. A 46, R3613 (1992)] that was pointed out by Zhu and Xiao [recent Comment, Phys. Rev. A 49, 2203 (1994)] we show that lasing without inversion is still achieved in our more general model description of a ssV-shaped system.

Suppression of inelastic bound-state resonance effects by the dimensionality of an atom-surface scattering event

Antonio Šiber, B. Gumhalter

We develop a multidimensional coupled-channel method suitable for studying the interplay of bound-state resonance and phonon-assisted scattering of inert gas atoms from solid surfaces in one, two, and three dimensions. This enables us to get insight into the features that depend on the dimensionality of inelastic resonant processes typically encountered in low-energy He atom scattering from surfaces, in general, and to elaborate on the observability of recently conjectured near threshold resonances in scattering from Einstein phonons, in particular.
