Selective transition and complete revivals of a single two-level atom in the Jaynes–Cummings Hamiltonian with an additional Kerr medium

Abstract

The Jaynes–Cummings Hamiltonian with deformed operators of the field is considered; as a particular case the Kerr-like medium is obtained via an appropriate deformation function. We find that, for an appropriate choice of the parameter of the deformation function, states of the uncoupled basis with a selected fixed number of quanta are in resonance, providing a maximum probability of transition of the atom for these states. Under this condition one may find an appropriate value of the coupling constant such that complete revivals are obtained.

Optimum coupling between a Ʌ-type three-level atom and a single-mode nonlinear field

M Rastegarzadeh, Mohammad Kazem Tavassoly

Based on the generalization of the Jaynes-Cummings model, we study the interaction between a Ʌ-type three-level atom and a single-mode radiation field in an intensity-dependent regime, in which the effect of Kerr-like medium is obtained by using an appropriate deformation function. Via the periodic condition, we will find an optimum value of coupling constant in resonance condition for which the atom suffers transitions with maximum (unit) probability, periodically.

Q-function for the Jaynes-Cummings model with an additional Kerr medium

M J Werner, H. Risken

The dynamics of the Q-function for a two-level system coupled to one-cavity mode (Jaynes-Cummings model) in the presence of a Kerr-like medium is investigated. Starting the field mode in a coherent state and the atom in its upper state, the Q-function splits into distinct distribution functions as in the case of the Jaynes-Cummings model. In addition to this splitting the Kerr medium introduces an additional rotation and broadening of the counter-rotating contributions to the Q-function. It is further shown that the discrete superpositions of coherent states produced by the Kerr medium split into additional peaks is due to atomic coupling.

Collapse and revivals in the Jaynes-Cummings model: An analysis based on the Mollow transformation

P. R. Berman, C. H. Raymond Ooi

Collapse and revivals in the Jaynes-Cummings model are studied within the context of the Mollow transformation for a single-mode coherent-state cavity field. The Mollow-transformed Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian has two atom-field terms, one corresponding to a classical field and the other to a quantized field driving the atomic transition. As such it maps onto the complementary problem of an atom in an optical cavity, whose field is initially in the vacuum state, driven by an external classical field. Both problems have the same atomic-state dynamics. It is shown that the revivals can be associated with two distinct properties of the quantized field of the transformed Hamiltonian. Revivals occurring at even (odd) multiples of the revival time are correlated with field states that are close to the initial field state and for which the average energy in the field is a minimum (maximum). Using semiclassical dressed states, we are able to map the problem for the field states onto one involving two uncoupled oscillators driven by off-resonant fields, provided effects related to dispersion are neglected. Analytic expressions for the photon number distribution of the transformed cavity field, including dispersion, are obtained for the even revival times.

The f-deformed Jaynes–Cummings model and its nonlinear coherent states

O de los Santos-Sánchez, J. Récamier

Based on the f-oscillator formalism, we introduce a nonlinear Jaynes–Cummings model (NJCM) which is constructed from the standard JCM by deforming the single-mode field operators. Such a generalization of the JCM describes the interaction of a two-level atom with a single mode of the electromagnetic field in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr-like medium. Since the medium is modelled as an f-oscillator, it is possible to consider the field f-coherent states (nonlinear coherent states) and their evolution.

Fluorescence spectrum of a two-level atom interacting with a quantized field in a Kerr-like medium

Amitabh Joshi, S. V. Lawande

A generalized Jaynes-Cummings model when an ideal cavity is filled with a Kerr-like medium is considered. The fluorescence spectrum produced by such a system using the infinity of transitions among the dressed states of the Jaynes-Cummings model is analyzed. A large number of resonances in the spectra are observed that are sensitive to the initial field statistics as well as the nonlinearity of the medium. Also, the fine structure of the spectra gets considerably modified by increasing the nonlinearity of the Kerr-like medium.

Collapse and revival phenomenon in the evolution of a resonant field in a Kerr-like medium

G. S. Agarwal, Ravinder Rupchand Puri

A quantum theory of the propagation of a single-mode resonant field through a Kerr-like medium is given. Numerical studies show the existence of the quantum collapses and revivals in the otherwise periodic exchange of energy between the field and the atomic oscillator. Approximate analytical methods are developed to explain the numerical results for the case of weak nonlinearity of the Kerr medium. For large nonlinearity, the correspondence with the Jaynes-Cummings model is discussed.
