Experimental implementation of an eight-dimensional Kochen-Specker set and observation of its connection with the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger theorem

Gustavo Cañas, S. Etcheverry, Esteban S. Gómez +4 more

For eight-dimensional quantum systems there is a Kochen-Specker (KS) set of 40 quantum yes-no tests that is related to the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) proof of Bell's theorem. Here we experimentally implement this KS set using an eight-dimensional Hilbert space spanned by the transverse momentum of single photons. We show that the experimental results of these tests violate a state-independent noncontextuality inequality. In addition, we show that, if the system is prepared in states that are formally equivalent to a three-qubit GHZ and W states, then the results of a subset of 16 tests violate a noncontextuality inequality that is formally equivalent to the three-party Mermin's Bell inequality, but for single eight-dimensional quantum systems. These experimental results highlight the connection between quantum contextuality and nonlocality for eight-dimensional quantum systems.

Extreme violation of local realism with a hyper-entangled four-photon-eight-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zelinger state

Huai-Xin Lu, Lianzhen Cao, Jia-Qiang Zhao +2 more

The highest qubit Ardehali inequality violation with 203 standard deviations is first experimentally demonstrated using the hyper-entangled four-photon-eight-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state. Moreover, we experimentally investigate the robustness of the Ardehali inequality for the four-, six-, and eight-qubit GHZ states in a rotary noisy environment systematically. Our results first validate the Ardehali' theoretical statement of relation between violation of Ardehali inequality and particle number, and proved that Ardehali inequality is more robust against noise in larger number qubit GHZ states, and provided an experimental benchmark for us to estimate the safety of quantum channel in the noisy environment.

Scheme for generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type states ofnphotons

Yoav Sagi

In this paper we propose a scheme for creating a three photons Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-type (GHZ) state using only linear optics elements and single-photon detectors. We furthermore generalize the scheme for producing any GHZ-like state of n photons. The input state of the scheme consists of a nonentangled state of n photons. Experimental aspects regarding the implementation of the scheme are presented. Finally, the role of such schemes in quantum information processing with photons is discussed.
