Generation of maximally entangled states of two cavity modes

Farhan Saif, Mahmoud Abdel‐Aty, M. A. Javed +2 more

In this letter we present a scheme for generating maximally entangled states of two cavity modes which enables us to generate complete set of Bell basis states having rather simple initial state preparation. Furthermore, we study the interaction of a two-level atom with two modes of electromagnetic field in a high Q cavity. The two-level atom acts as a control qubit and the two mode electromagnetic field serves as a target qubit. This simple system of quantum electrodynamics provides us experimentally feasible universal quantum logic gates.

Universal Quantum Gate Set for Multi-Mode Schrödinger Cat States Stabilized by Non-Local Dissipation Engineering

Jesper Lind-Olsen, Jonas Lidal, Tron Omland +1 more

Schrödinger cat states provide a hardware-efficient platform for bosonic quantum error correction by encoding logical information in protected manifolds of harmonic oscillators. While previous work has demonstrated the dissipative stabilization of multi-mode Schrödinger cat states as robust quantum memories, a framework for universal quantum computation has remained unavailable. Here we work towards this by introducing a universal gate set for dissipatively stabilized multi-mode cat qubits as a necessary resource for computation. Using a chain of Kerr non-linear oscillators coupled through engineered non-local dissipation and an effective low-dimensional description, we show how single-qubit control can be achieved through arbitrary rotation around the $X$-axis and $π/2$-rotation around the $Z$-axis. We further show how coupling two such stabilized arrays through just one oscillator on each respective array enables coherent entangling operations through implementation of the $XX_{π/2}$ gate. Numerical simulations demonstrate high-fidelity gate dynamics and entanglement generation under realistic parameters. Finally, we analyze the effects of induced and intrinsic photon loss, disorder, and the validity regime of the effective low-dimensional theory. Our results establish dissipatively stabilized multi-mode Schrödinger cat states as a potential architecture for universal bosonic quantum computation.

Trapped Ions as an Architecture for Quantum Computing

Gabriel P. L. M. Fernandes, Alexandre C. Ricardo, Fernando Redivo Cardoso +1 more

In this paper we describe one of the most promising platforms for the construction of a universal quantum computer, which consists of a chain of $N$ ions trapped in a harmonic potential, whose internal states work out as qubits, and are coupled to collective vibrational modes of the chain. From such coupling, it is possible to build interactions between different ions of the chain, that is, qubit-qubit interactions that, together with individual operations on the ions, allow building a quantum computer as first proposed by Cirac and Zoller in the 1990s [Phys. Rev. Lett. 74, 4091 (1995)]. Here we discuss from the physics involved in trapping ions in electromagnetic potentials to the Hamiltonian engineering needed to generate a universal set of logic gates, fundamental for the execution of more complex quantum algorithms. Finally, we present the current state of the art of quantum computing in trapped ion systems, highlighting recent advances made by companies and government projects that use such architecture, such as IonQ and AQTION.
