On the Correlation Inequalities in Some Models Involving Fermions

Abstract

Abstract Using the Coleman (‐Fröhlich‐Seiler) theorem we have mapped chargeless sectors of some (generalized) Yukawa‐Thirring‐(Schwinger) two‐dimensional models onto pure Bose theories. Discussion of certain correlation inequalities in this framework is made. In particular, we proved that the first and second Griffiths‐Kelly‐Shermann correlation inequalities hold. Correlation inequalities suggest that there is on phase transition of the first order in scalar versions of these models. Some results on the D‐L‐R equations for these models are established, confirming previous suggestion.

Correlation inequalities and phase transition in the generalized X-Y model

Masuo Suzuki

Correlation inequalities <σAz>≥0, <σAzσBz>≥<σAz><σBz>, ∂<σAz>/∂JBz≥0, and ∂<σAz>/∂JBx≤0 are proved for the generalized X-Y model with the Hamiltonian of the form H=−Σ(JAzσAz+JAxσAx), where σAz=ΠjεAσjz, σAx=ΠjεAσjx, JAz≥0,JAx≥0, A denotes an arbitrary subset of the N lattice points, and σjx, σjz are the Pauli matrices. This yields a simple extension of the Griffiths-Kelly-Sherman inequalities to the above quantal system. Applications to phase transitions are also discussed briefly.

Exact fermionic dual of the Bose-Hubbard model

Lei Su, Ivar Martin, Aashish A. Clerk

Recent developments have established exact bosonization and fermionization with a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry as dualities through gauging. In this work, we apply fermionic gauging, which realizes generalized Jordan-Wigner transformations, to the Bose-Hubbard (BH) model with a global $U(1)$ symmetry and derive an exact dual description in terms of fermionic composites, built from bosons and fermions. In 1D, this duality generalizes the exact mapping between the extended hard-core BH model and the spinless Fermi-Hubbard model to include soft-core bosons. At low energies, the mapping reduces to the well-known equivalence between the sine-Gordon model and the Thirring model. The oscillation wave vector of the fermionic composite correlation function in the gapless phase is fixed by their density, providing a novel manifestation of Luttinger's theorem. We verify the exact duality using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations and demonstrate that the gapless phase and the phase transition are governed by the compact boson conformal field theory. Our construction naturally extends to generic bosonic systems and higher dimensions, opening new avenues for studying Bose-Fermi mixtures in optical lattices and other strongly correlated quantum systems.

Quantum phase transitions in a bidimensional O(N) × ℤ2 scalar field model

G. O. Heymans, Marcus Benghi Pinto, Rudnei O. Ramos

Abstract We analyze the possible quantum phase transition patterns occurring within the O(N) × ℤ2 scalar multi-field model at vanishing temperatures in (1 + 1)-dimensions. The physical masses associated with the two coupled scalar sectors are evaluated using the loop approximation up to second order. We observe that in the strong coupling regime, the breaking O(N) × ℤ2→ O(N), which is allowed by the Mermin-Wagner-Hohenberg-Coleman theorem, can take place through a second-order phase transition. In order to satisfy this no-go theorem, the O(N) sector must have a finite mass gap for all coupling values, such that conformality is never attained, in opposition to what happens in the simpler ℤ2 version. Our evaluations also show that the sign of the interaction between the two different fields alters the transition pattern in a significant way. These results may be relevant to describe the quantum phase transitions taking place in cold linear systems with competing order parameters. At the same time the super-renormalizable model proposed here can turn out to be useful as a prototype to test resummation techniques as well as non-perturbative methods.

Theorems on the Partition Functions of the Heisenberg Ferromagnets

Taro Asano

It is shown that all the zeros of the partition function lie on the unit circle in the complex `fugacity' plane and the first inequality of Griffiths, Kelly and Sherman for the spin correlation functions also holds for the anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnets as in the Ising model. The isotropic Heisenberg ferromagnets and the Ising ferromagnets are involved as special cases and thus the methods of this article provide alternative proof of the corresponding theorems in the Ising model.

Correlation Inequalities for the Quantum XY Model

Costanza Benassi, Benjamin Lees, Daniel Ueltschi

We show the positivity or negativity of truncated correlation functions in the quantum XY model with spin 1/2 (at any temperature) and spin 1 (in the ground state). These Griffiths-Ginibre inequalities of the second kind generalise an earlier result of Gallavotti.

Phase Transitions in the Hubbard Model on the Square Lattice

Zhituo Wang

We study the low temperature properties of the two-dimensional weakly interacting Hubbard model on $\ZZZ^2$ with renormalized chemical potential $μ=2-μ_0$, $μ_0=10^{-10}$ fixed, in which case the Fermi surface is close to a perfect square. Using fermionic functional integrals, cluster expansions and rigorous renormalization group analysis, we prove that the perturbation series for the two-point Schwinger function is analytic in the coupling constant $ł$ in the domain $ł\in\RR_T=\{ł\in\RRR,\vertλ\log^2(μ_0T/C_1)|\le C_2\}$ for any fixed temperature $T>0$, suggesting that there is a phase transition with critical temperature $T_c= \frac{C_1}{\m_0}\exp{(-C^{1/2}_2|λ|^{-1/2})}$. Here $C_1, C_2$ are positive constants independent of $T$ and $ł$. We also prove that the second derivative of the momentum space self-energy function w.r.t. the external momentum is not uniformly bounded, suggesting that this model is {\it not} a Fermi liquid in the mathematically precise sense of Salmhofer. This result can be viewed as a first step towards rigorous study of the Fermi liquid-non Fermi liquid crossover phenomenon.
