Atomic Inversion in a System of a Moving Two-Level Atom for MultiPhoton Transition Interacting with the Number-Chaotic State Light

Yana Wang

The atomic inversion evolution in a system which is composed of a multi-photon transition moving two-level atom interacting with the number-chaotic state is studied by means of the full quantum theory. The influences of the atomic initial state,field-mode structure parameter, the average photon number of the chaotic state, the photon number of the number state and the values of the transitional photon number are also analysed in this paper. The results show that the atomic motion will make the particle distribution inversion appear different periodic oscillation rules. The particle distribution inversion presents different patterns because of the parity of transition photon number.

Experimental study on transit time broadening in rubidium 5S-5D excitation

Vinay Shukla, Ayan Ray

In this experimental work, we report our findings about a transition between states of even parity 5S1/2→5D5/2 of Rb atoms under different conditions of transit time broadening. For this purpose, the blue fluorescence emanating from the associated decay 5D5/2→6P3/2→5S1/2 channel is monitored. Based on the relative magnification of the laser beam, which is used in excitation between levels of even parity, the system exhibits two photon absorption (TPA) through blue fluorescence peaks. The TPA profile appears as a Lorentzian peak on a Doppler background. The change in the laser beam diameter directly influences the relative contributions of Lorentzian and Doppler parts. A direct inference drawn from of this study may be utilized in optimizing the extraction of the first derivative spectrum corresponding to 5S→5D transitions.

The effect of field strength on the resonance structure of three-photon ionization spectra of the samarium atom

Aleksandr I. Gomonai, Eugene Yu. Remeta

Amplitude ratios of resonance maxima caused by two-photon transitions from different levels of the ground term of the samarium atom are studied experimentally and theoretically as functions of the laser-radiation field strength. The results of these studies are shown to be promising for identifying the resonance structure of three-photon ionization spectra of the samarium atom. A not yet observed excited even-parity state with energy E ≈ 36789.1 cm −1 and hypothetical values of total angular momentum J = 5, 6 has been discovered.
