Quantum decoherence of a charge qubit in a spin-fermion model

We consider quantum decoherence in solid-state systems by studying the transverse dynamics of a single qubit interacting with a fermionic bath and driven by external pulses. Our interest is in investigating the extent to which the lost coherence can be restored by the application of external pulses to the qubit. We show that the qubit evolution under various pulse sequences can be mapped onto Keldysh path integrals. This approach allows a simple diagrammatic treatment of different bath excitation processes contributing to qubit decoherence. We apply this theory to the evolution of the qubit coupled to the Andreev-fluctuator bath in the context of widely studied superconducting qubits. We show that charge fluctuations within the Andreev-fluctuator model lead to a $1/f$ noise spectrum with a characteristic temperature depedence. We discuss the strategy for suppression of decoherence by the application of higher-order (beyond spin echo) pulse sequences.

DECOHERENCE DYNAMICS OF A FLUX QUBIT RESPECTIVELY COUPLED TO A BOSON BATH AND A SPIN BATH

Bao‐Long Liang, Ji‐Suo Wang, Xiang‐Guo Meng +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the dynamical evolution and the decoherence of a single flux qubit due to its coupling with the external environment bath. We consider two typical baths: boson bath and spin bath. It is shown that, at low but finite temperature, if the two typical baths have smooth and continuous spectrum, the dynamics of the system is in general non-Markovian though of finite memory time. Most important of all, affected by the external environment bath, the flux qubit exhibits resonance of the coherence of the qubit. Comparing with the spin bath, the boson bath's destruction of the coherence is more serious.

From Zeno to anti-Zeno regime: Decoherence-control dependence on the quantum statistics of the bath

D. D. Bhaktavatsala Rao, Gershon Kurizki

We demonstrate through exact solutions that a spin bath leads to stronger (faster) dephasing of a qubit than a bosonic bath with an identical bath-coupling spectrum. This difference is due to the spin-bath ``dressing'' by the coupling. Consequently, the quantum statistics of the bath strongly affects the pulse sequences required to dynamically decouple the qubit from its bath.
