On position and momentum operators in the q-oscillator algebra

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to study the position and momentum operators in q-deformed oscillator algebras. The natural form of the position operator is Xp=qpN(a++a)qpN, where p is a real number. This operator is an operator representable by a Jacobi matrix. Using the theory of Jacobi matrices, the theory of classical moment problem and the theory of basic hypergeometric functions, it is shown that, depending on values of q and p, Xp can be unbounded symmetric operator [which has the deficiency indices (1,1) and, hence, is not self-adjoint, but has self-adjoint extensions], bounded self-adjoint operator with continuous simple spectrum or self-adjoint operator of trace class (therefore, with discrete spectrum with zero as the point of accumulation of eigenvalues). The connection of the q-deformed Heisenberg relation PX−qXP=1 for the position and momentum operators with a q-deformation of the quantum harmonic oscillator is also considered.

DISCRETE COORDINATE REALIZATIONS OF THE q-OSCILLATOR WHEN q>1

Natig M. Atakishiyev, Anatoli U. Klimyk

We elaborate on the Macfarlane–Biedenharn q-oscillator when q>1. In this case the position operator Q = a†+a and the momentum operator P = i(a†-a) are symmetric, but not self-adjoint. For this reason, one cannot specify spectra of Q and P. Since these operators have one-parameter families of self-adjoint extensions with different spectra, the common definition of such q-oscillator is not complete. We derive an action of Q and P (as well as of the related Hamiltonian) upon functions given on the corresponding coordinate spaces, on which Q and P are self-adjoint operators. To each self-adjoint extension of Q there corresponds an appropriate coordinate space (a spectrum of this self-adjoint extension). Thus, for every fixed q>1 one obtains a one-parameter family of non-equivalent q-oscillators in their coordinate spaces.

New q -Hermite polynomials: characterization, operators algebra and associated coherent states

Won Sang Chung, Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou, Sama Arjika

This paper addresses a construction of new q-Hermite polynomials with a full characterization of their main properties and corresponding raising and lowering operator algebra. The three-term recursive relation as well as the second-order differential equation obeyed by these new polynomials are explicitly derived. Relevant operator actions, including the eigenvalue problem of the deformed oscillator and the self-adjointness of the related position and momentum operators, are investigated and analyzed. The associated coherent states are constructed and discussed with an explicit resolution of the induced moment problem. The phase collapse in a q-deformed boson system is studied.

The Hilbert Space Representations for SO_q(3)-symmetric quantum mechanics

Wolfgang Weich

The observable algebra O of SO_q(3)-symmetric quantum mechanics is generated by the coordinates of momentum and position spaces (which are both isomorphic to the SO_q(3)-covariant real quantum space R_q^3). Their interrelations are determined with the quantum group covariant differential calculus. For a quantum mechanical representation of O on a Hilbert space essential self- adjointness of specified observables and compatibility of the covariance of the observable algebra with the action of the unitary continuous corepresent- ation operator of the compact quantum matrix group SO_q(3) are required. It is shown that each such quantum mechanical representation extends uniquely to a self-adjoint representation of O. All these self-adjoint representations are constructed. As an example an SO_q(3)-invariant Coulomb potential is intro- duced, the corresponding Hamiltonian proved to be essentially self-adjoint and its negative eigenvalues calculated with the help of a q-deformed Lenz-vector.

The Wigner function of aq-deformed harmonic oscillator model

E I Jafarov, S Lievens, S M Nagiyev +1 more

The phase space representation for a q -deformed model of the quantum harmonic oscillator is constructed. We have found explicit expressions for both the Wigner and Husimi distribution functions for the stationary states of the q -oscillator model under consideration. The Wigner function is expressed as a basic hypergeometric series, related to the Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials. It is shown that, in the limit case h → 0 ( q → 1), both the Wigner and Husimi distribution functions reduce correctly to their well-known non-relativistic analogues. Surprisingly, examination of both distribution functions in the q -deformed model shows that, when q ≪ 1, their behaviour in the phase space is similar to the ground state of the ordinary quantum oscillator, but with a displacement towards negative values of the momentum. We have also computed the mean values of the position and momentum using the Wigner function. Unlike the ordinary case, the mean value of the momentum is not zero and it depends on q and n . The ground-state-like behaviour of the distribution functions for excited states in the q -deformed model opens quite new perspectives for further experimental measurements of quantum systems in the phase space.

Spectra of Observables in the q-Oscillator and q-Analogue of the Fourier Transform

Anatoliy U. Klimyk

Spectra of the position and momentum operators of the Biedenharn-Macfarlane q-oscillator (with the main relation aa + -qa + a = 1) are studied when q > 1.These operators are symmetric but not self-adjoint.They have a one-parameter family of selfadjoint extensions. These extensions are derived explicitly.Their spectra and eigenfunctions are given.Spectra of different extensions do not intersect. The results show that the creation and annihilation operators a + and a of the q-oscillator for q > 1 cannot determine a physical system without further more precise definition. In order to determine a physical system we have to choose appropriate self-adjoint extensions of the position and momentum operators.
