Quantum properties of a non-Gaussian state in the large- N approximation

Florian Gautier, Julien Serreau

We study the properties of a non-Gaussian density matrix for an $O(N)$ scalar field in the context of the incomplete description picture. This is of relevance for studies of decoherence and entropy production in quantum field theory. In particular, we study how the inclusion of the simplest non-Gaussian correlator in the set of measured observables modifies the effective (Gaussian) description one can infer from the knowledge of the two-point functions only. We compute exactly the matrix elements of the non-Gaussian density matrix at leading order in a $1/N$ expansion. This allows us to study the quantum properties (purity, entropy, coherence) of the corresponding state for arbitrarily strong non-Gaussianity. We find that if the Gaussian and the non-Gaussian observers essentially agree concerning quantum purity or correlation entropy, their conclusion can significantly differ for other, more detailed aspects such as the degree of quantum coherence of the system.

Enhancement of Non‐Gaussianity and Nonclassicality of Photon‐Added Displaced Fock State: A Quantitative Approach

Priya Malpani, Kishore Thapliyal, J. Banerji +1 more

Abstract Non‐Gaussian and nonclassical states and processes are already found to be important resources for performing various tasks related to quantum gravity and quantum information processing. Considering these facts, a quantitative analysis of the nonclassical and non‐Gaussian features is performed here for photon added displaced Fock state, as a test case, using a set of measures, namely entanglement potential, Wigner–Yanese skew information, Wigner logarithmic negativity, and relative entropy of non‐Gaussianity. It is observed that Fock parameter always increases the amount of nonclassicality and non‐Gaussianity, while photon addition is effective only for small values of the displacement parameter. Further, the nonclassical and non‐Gaussian effects decrease initially with an increase in the displacement parameter before increasing for the large displacement to saturate to the corresponding Fock state (equivalently displaced Fock state) value. Finally, dynamics of the Wigner function under the effect of photon loss channel is used to show that only highly efficient detectors are able to detect Wigner negativity.

Gaussian superpositions for bosonic encodings

Federico Centrone, Juan Pablo Paz, Augusto Roncaglia

Non-Gaussian bosonic states are ubiquitous in interacting light--matter systems, many-body platforms, and relativistic quantum field settings, but their quantitative characterization is hindered by the infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and by the poor scalability of Fock-space truncation methods. We introduce an exact finite-manifold encoding for states supported on a finite span of Gaussian branches, enabling the use of standard finite-dimensional quantum-information tools directly on an effective density matrix whose entries are determined by Gaussian overlaps. As demonstrations, we obtain closed-form and numerically stable evaluations of entropies and relative-entropy non-Gaussianity, and derive an analytic expression for the bipartite entanglement negativity of arbitrary multimode two-branch Gaussian superpositions, including a minimal which-branch dephasing model. Our framework provides a practical bridge between experimentally accessible continuous-variable resources (e.g., cat-like and measurement-conditioned states) and discrete-variable information measures, with immediate applications to benchmarking non-Gaussian resources in several quantum technology platforms.
