Abstract

The role of multiplicative colored noise on the photon statistics of the dye-laser output is investigated. This model explains consistently the recent experimental results by Short, Mandel, and Roy.Received 7 February 1983DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.50.1273©1983 American Physical Society

Multiplicative colored noise in a dye laser at steady state

Shiqun Zhu

The steady-state intensity fluctuations of a single-mode dye laser are investigated when the laser is operated far above threshold. An analytic expression for the variance of the laser intensity is obtained when both additive white and multiplicative colored noise are included in the laser model. The result is in excellent agreement with the measurements of Kaminishi, Roy, Short, and Mandel [Phys. Rev. A 24, 370 (1981)].

Effects of quantum noise in a dye-laser model

Ya Jia, Jia-rong Li

The steady-state properties of a dye laser model with white quantum noise and strongly colored pump noise are investigated. An effective diffusion coefficient in the steady state is presented. Our coefficient differs from that of Fox and Roy [Phys. Rev. A 35, 1838 (1987)]. We compare our results with the measurements and simulations of Lett, Short, and Mandel [Phys. Rev. Lett. 52, 341 (1984)], and the results of Fox and Roy, respectively. We find that the quantum noise plays an important role in the steady-state analysis of laser fluctuations below and near threshold.

Theory for the Transient Statistics of a Dye Laser

A theory is presented to explain the statistical properties of the growth of dye-laser radiation. Results are in agreement with recent experimental findings. The different roles of pump-noise intensity and correlation time are elucidated.
