Abstract

Communication security is critical in the marine environment as information may be transmitted over large open areas like high seas. In this letter, an analysis is conducted on the probability of secrecy capacity for wireless communications over the Rician fading channels. In particular, a closed-form expression for the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity is derived. The result is applicable to the scenarios of Rayleigh/Rayleigh, Rician/Rayleigh, Rayleigh/Rician, and Rician/Rician.

Strictly Positive Secrecy Capacity Analysis of a Wiretapped Wireless Communication System in Presence of Full Hyper-Rayleigh Fading Channel

Aleksey S. Gvozdarev

The research considers the physical layer security problem for wireless devices communicating through a full hyper-Rayleigh fading channel. Two distinct scenarios are assumed: asymmetric (the links have different channel statistical descriptions) and symmetric (the channel statistical parameters are identical for both the main and wiretap links); and two particular cases are studied: the wiretap-dominating case (i.e., the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the wiretap channel is much greater than in the main channel) and the main channel-dominating case (that is, when the opposite situation is observed). For the assumed problem, a closed-form expression for the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity is derived, and closed-form approximations for both scenarios and both cases are provided. The presented numerical analysis demonstrates the correctness of the derived expressions and provides insights into the impact of various channel parameters on communication secrecy in severe fading environments.

Physical layer security over cascaded Rayleigh fading channels

Serdar Özgür Ata

In this letter, physical layer secrecy/security performance analysis has been investigated over cascaded fading channels where the fading effects are worse than those in the cellular communication channels like Rayleigh and Nakagami-m. Analytic results are derived for the double Rayleigh fading channel model. As the analysis are evaluated, first the closed-form expression of the probability of the positive secrecy capacity is obtained, then the exact secrecy outage probability is obtained in the closed-form. Finally, the analytic results are verified by comparing with the computer simulations.

Physical layer secrecy performance over Rayleigh/Rician fading channels

Dac‐Binh Ha, Trung Q. Duong, Duc‐Dung Tran +2 more

In this paper, we investigate the physical layer secrecy performance of a single-input single-output system that consists of single antenna devices and operates in the presence of a single antenna passive eavesdropper over dissimilar fading channels. In particular, we consider two scenarios in terms of dissimilar fading channel arrangements: 1) The legal/illegal channels are subject to Rayleigh/Rician fading, respectively; 2) The legal/illegal channels are subject to Rician/Rayleigh fading, respectively. Specifically, analytical expressions for the probability of the existence of a non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability are derived by using statistical characteristics of the signal-to-noise ratio. Numerical results are provided for selected scenarios to illustrate applications of the developed analytical expressions.

Performance analysis of physical layer security over α – μ fading channel

Long Kong, Hung Tran, Georges Kaddoum

Recently, many works have focused on analysing the metrics of physical layer security over different wireless channels such as additive white Gaussian noise, Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami‐ m fading distributions. To extend the analysis to the general case, the α – μ fading channel is considered, which can span the aforementioned cases. For this purpose, the physical layer security over the α – μ fading channel is presented. The closed‐form expressions for the probability of positive secrecy capacity and upper bound of the secrecy outage probability are derived. Their accuracies are assessed through comparison of theoretical analysis and simulations results.

Probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity of the Weibull fading channel

Xian Liu

In this paper, the information-theoretic secrecy of Weibull fading channels is investigated. The present work generalizes the analysis on Rayleigh fading. Several formulas of the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity are derived. It is shown that in some cases the results can be expressed in terms of a general function, the Meijer G-function. Profile examples are illustrated and discussed.

Strictly positive secrecy capacity of log-normal fading channel with multiple eavesdroppers

Xian Liu

In this paper, we investigate the information-theoretic secrecy for the log-normal fading channel. In particular, we derive the closed-form expressions of the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity for two wireless communication systems, with two and three eavesdroppers, respectively. These expressions are in terms of the well-known T-function and S-function.
