Spectroscopy of a Perturbed Dirac Oscillator

Francisco Domínguez-Adame

Published Jul 15, 1991• 7 citations
Publisher

Abstract

Energy levels of the Dirac oscillator perturbed by arbitrary nonlocal separable vector and scalar potentials are found in a closed form. Unlike the nonrelativistic case, the perturbation potential radically changes all energy levels of the oscillator. The δ-function limit of the perturbation potential is discussed in detail.

We study theoretically the level shift of the Dirac oscillator perturbed by any sharply peaked potential approaching a surface delta potential. A Green function method is used to obtain closed expressions for all partial waves and parities.

On Relativistic Singular Harmonic-Oscillator Potentials

Francisco Domínguez-Adame, Enrique Maciá

The Dirac equation for a harmonic-oscillator potential plus a Lorentz scalar delta-shaped term has been solved. This singular potential changes the usual oscillator energy levels. Unlike the nonrelativistic treatment, the particle cannot fall into the centre for any negative value of the delta-function strength. The apparent occurrence of double degenerate energy levels for some limiting cases is found.

Dirac Equation in the Presence of Hartmann and Ring-Shaped Oscillator Potentials

Zahra Bakhshi

The importance of the energy spectrum of bound states and their restrictions in quantum mechanics due to the different methods have been used for calculating and determining the limit of them. Comparison of Schrödinger-like equation obtained by Dirac equation with the nonrelativistic solvable models is the most efficient method. By this technique, the exact relativistic solutions of Dirac equation for Hartmann and Ring-Shaped Oscillator Potentials are accessible, when the scalar potential is equal to the vector potential. Using solvable nonrelativistic quantum mechanics systems as a basic model and considering the physical conditions provide the changes in the restrictions of relativistic parameters based on the nonrelativistic definitions of parameters.

An exact treatment of the Dirac delta function potential in the Schrödinger equation

Daniel A. Atkinson, Horace W. Crater

This paper presents several cases in which the effects of the addition of a delta function potential on bound states can be computed exactly. In the case of the one dimensional Schrödinger equation, a Green’s function technique is used to compute an exact implicit expression that gives the effect of the one−dimensional delta function potential on the bound states eigenvalues. It is also shown that the weak coupling limit of the implicit expression agrees with the perturbative treatment of the delta function. It is pointed out that this technique cannot be applied to obtain an exact treatment of the delta function potential δ3(r) in the three−dimensional Schrödinger equation. Instead, an alternate definition of the delta function in three dimensions as a limit of a sequence of square well potentials is used. Unlike the one dimensional case, the exact effect on the eigenvalue does not agree in the limit of weak coupling with the perturbative results. This indicates that the three−dimensional delta function potential should not be used to approximate strongly coupled short range potentials for which perturbation theory is inadequate.
