Spectral functions of the disordered Tomonaga - Luttinger model

Abstract

Using the functional integral bosonization technique, the spinless Tomonaga - Luttinger model with impurity forward scattering is solved exactly. Explicit analytical results are given for the one- and two-particle spectral functions in terms of a convolution integral representation. Sharp structures in the frequency spectra of an ordered system are smoothed out by the disorder. The existence of a charge - density instability is predicted if the critical exponent is less than -0.5. There is no influence of the disorder on the superconducting spectral function .

Spectral functions for the Tomonaga-Luttinger model

V. Meden, Kurt Schönhammer

Results for the one-particle Green's function for the Tomonaga-Luttinger model of one-dimensional interacting fermions take a simple form using space and time variables. To obtain the corresponding spectral functions which determine photoemission and inverse-photoemission spectra, a double Fourier transform is necessary. For the model including spin we present analytical and numerical results. They show drastic differences from the spinless case. Expressions for the critical indices which determine the singularities of the spectra are given.

Functional bosonisation of the Tomonaga-Luttinger model

Derek K. K. Lee, Yang Chen

A new bosonisation procedure based on an exact method of functional integration is applied to the one-dimensional Tomonaga (1950)-Luttinger (1963) model with forward scattering. This method circumvents the conventional procedure where the fermion field operator is represented by (bosonic) charge and spin density fields. Fictitious auxiliary fields are introduced to deal with the interaction term so that the fermionic degrees of freedom can be integrated out exactly. In addition to the usual description of the system in terms of charge and spin fluctuations, an effective action in terms of the auxiliary fields can be used. The evaluation of the Green function is facilitated if the latter route is taken. The authors' results for the spinless and spin-1/2 cases agree with previous work.

The Effect of Thermal Fluctuation on Spectral Function for the Tomonaga-Luttinger Model

N. Nakamura, Yoshikazu Suzumura

We examine the spectral function of the single electron Green function at finite temperature for the Tomonaga-Luttinger model which consists of a mutual interaction with only forward scattering. The spectral weight, which is calculated as a function of the frequency with fixed wave number, shows that several peaks originating in the excitation spectra of charge and spin fluctuations merge into a single peak by the increase of temperature.

Spectral functions of two-band spinless fermion and single-band spin- 12 fermion models

E. Orignac, Masahisa Tsuchiizu, Yoshikazu Suzumura

We examine zero-temperature one-particle spectral functions for the one-dimensional two-band spinless fermions with different velocities and general forward-scattering interactions. By using the bosonization technique and diagonalizing the model to two Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid Hamiltonians, we obtain general expressions for the spectral functions, which are given in terms of the Appell hypergeometric functions. For the case of identical two-band fermions, corresponding to the SU(2) symmetric spin-1/2 fermions with repulsive interactions, the spectral functions can be expressed in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric function and are shown to recover the double-peak structure suggesting the well-known ``spin-charge'' separation. By tuning the difference in velocities for the two-band fermions, we clarify the crossover in spectral functions from the spin-charge separation to the decoupled fermions. We discuss the relevance of our results to the spin-1/2 Hubbard model under a magnetic field, which can be mapped onto two-band spinless fermions.

Functional-integral approach to an exactly soluble one-dimensional electron-phonon system

Yang Chen, Derek K. K. Lee, Marco U. Luchini

We consider forward-scattering electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in an extended Tomonaga-Luttinger model. The method of functional integration over anticommuting fields gives us a bosonized effective action. This enables us to obtain the spectrum and the correlation functions of the system exactly. We consider couplings to both acoustic and optical phonons. In the case of acoustic phonons, we obtain $T\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0$ phase diagram in the plane of coupling constants which indicates the existence of a normal phase between the regions of charge-density-wave and superconducting instabilities. This is qualitatively different from previous results.

Critical behavior of Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids with a mobile impurity

Yasumasa Tsukamoto, Tatsuya Fujii, Norio Kawakami

The critical properties of Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids including a mobile impurity are studied by means of the Bethe ansatz method, conformal field theory (CFT), and bosonization. We calculate conformal dimensions by performing the CFT analysis of the energy spectrum for an integrable impurity model, and show that this system is classified as $c=1$ shifted Gaussian CFT. The exact critical exponents of various correlation functions are obtained as functions of the impurity mass and its momentum. Passing to the continuum limit, we then construct an effective field theory in terms of bosonization, and directly calculate some correlation functions. A possible application to the Fermi-edge singularity in quantum wires is also discussed.
