Real Space Renormalization Group Analysis with the Replica Method for the Two Dimensional Ising Edwards–Anderson Model

Abstract

We apply the real space renormalization group (RG) to the replica Hamiltonian of the two dimensional Ising Edwards–Anderson model to discuss the existence of the spin glass (SG) phase. We derive the RG equations under the replica symmetric (RS) ansatz and the resulting flow diagram indicates the existence of the SG phase. The critical exponent for the SG transition has a plausible value while that of the multicritical point (MCP) is a complex number. We consider that this failure at the MCP is due to not taking the RS breaking into account. Indeed we find that the RS breaking parameter is relevant both at the SG critical point and the MCP, indicating the nontriviality of the SG phase of this model.

Ordered phase of the one-dimensional Ising spin glass with long-range interactions

M A Moore

The one-dimensional long-range Ising spin glass provides useful insights into the properties of finite-dimensional spin glasses with short-range interactions. The defect energy renormalization-group equations derived for it by Kotliar, Anderson, and Stein have been reexamined and a new fixed point has been found. The fixed points which have previously been studied are found to be inappropriate. It is shown that the renormalization-group equations themselves directly imply that that the spin-glass phase is replica symmetric, in agreement with droplet model expectations, when the range exponent $\ensuremath{\sigma}$ lies between the upper and lower critical values.

Replica cluster variational method: the replica symmetric solution for the 2D random bond Ising model

Alejandro Lage-Castellanos, Roberto Mulet, Federico Ricci‐Tersenghi +1 more

We present and solve the replica symmetric equations in the context of the replica cluster variational method for the 2D random bond Ising model (including the 2D Edwards–Anderson spin-glass model). First, we solve a linearized version of these equations to obtain the phase diagrams of the model on the square and triangular lattices. In both cases, the spin-glass transition temperatures and the multicritical point estimations improve largely over the Bethe predictions. Moreover, we show that this phase diagram is consistent with the behavior of inference algorithms on single instances of the problem. Finally, we present a method to consistently find approximate solutions to the equations in the glassy phase. The method is applied to the triangular lattice down to T = 0, also in the presence of an external field.

Spin Glass in a Field: A New Zero-Temperature Fixed Point in Finite Dimensions

Maria Chiara Angelini, Giulio Biroli

By using real-space renormalization group (RG) methods, we show that spin glasses in a field display a new kind of transition in high dimensions. The corresponding critical properties and the spin-glass phase are governed by two nonperturbative zero-temperature fixed points of the RG flow. We compute the critical exponents and discuss the RG flow and its relevance for three-dimensional systems. The new spin-glass phase we discovered has unusual properties, which are intermediate between the ones conjectured by droplet and full replica symmetry-breaking theories. These results provide a new perspective on the long-standing debate about the behavior of spin glasses in a field.

Phase structure of the three-dimensional Edwards-Anderson spin glass

Enzo Marinari, Giorgio Parisi A, Juan Jesus Ruiz-Lorenzo

We characterize numerically the properties of the phase transition of the three-dimensional Ising spin glass with Gaussian couplings and of the low-temperature phase. We compute critical exponents on large lattices. We study in detail the overlap probability distribution and the equilibrium overlap-overlap correlation functions. We find a clear agreement with off-equilibrium results from previous work. These results strongly support the existence of a continuous spontaneous replica symmetry breaking in three-dimensional spin glasses.

The phase transition of the four dimensional Ising spin glass in presence of a magnetic field is well described by a replica-symmetric field theory

L. A. Fernández, I. González-Adalid Pemartín, Víctor Martín-Mayor +5 more

Which is the field-theory for the spin-glass phase transition in a magnetic field? This is an open question in less than six dimensions. So far, perturbative computations have not found a stable fixed-point for the renormalization group flow. We tackle this problem through a numerical analysis of the Ising spin glass in four spatial dimensions (data obtained from the Janus collaboration) and in the Bethe lattice. We find strong numerical evidence supporting that the phase transition of the four dimensional Ising spin glass in a field is described by a replica-symmetric Hamiltonian.

Topologically invariant tensor renormalization group method for the Edwards-Anderson spin glasses model

Chuang Wang, Shao-Meng Qin, Haijun Zhou

Tensor renormalization group (TRG) method is a real space renormalization group approach. It has been successfully applied to both classical and quantum systems. In this paper, we study a disordered and frustrated system, the two-dimensional Edwards-Anderson model, by a new topological invariant TRG scheme. We propose an approach to calculate the local magnetizations and nearest pair correlations simultaneously. The Nishimori multicritical point predicted by the topological invariant TRG agrees well with the recent Monte Carlo results. The TRG schemes outperform the mean-field methods on the calculation of the partition function. We notice that it might obtain a negative partition function at sufficiently low temperatures. However, the negative contribution can be neglected if the system is large enough. This topological invariant TRG can also be used to study three-dimensional spin glass systems.
