Abstract

A scheme of a multiqubit quantum computer on atomic ensembles using a quantum transistor implementing two qubit gates is proposed. We demonstrate how multiatomic ensembles permit one to work with a large number of qubits that are represented in a logical encoding in which each qubit is recorded on a superposition of single-particle states of two atomic ensembles. The access to qubits is implemented by appropriate phasing of quantum states of each of atomic ensembles. An atomic quantum transistor is proposed for use when executing two qubit operations. The quantum transistor effect appears when an excitation quantum is exchanged between two multiatomic ensembles located in two closely positioned QED cavities connected with each other by a gate atom. The dynamics of quantum transfer between atomic ensembles can be different depending on one of two states of the gate atom. Using the possibilities of control for of state of the gate atom, we show the possibility of quantum control for the state of atomic ensembles and, based on this, implementation of basic single and two qubit gates. Possible implementation schemes for a quantum computer on an atomic quantum transistor and their advantages in practical implementation are discussed.

A quantum computer on the basis of an atomic quantum transistor with built-in quantum memory

Sergey A. Moiseev, S. N. Andrianov

A quantum transistor based quantum computer where the multiqubit quantum memory is a component of the quantum transistor and, correspondingly, takes part in the performance of quantum logical operations is considered. Proceeding from the generalized Jaynes–Cummings model, equations for coefficients of the wave function of the quantum system under consideration have been obtained for different stages of its evolution in processes of performing logical operations. The solution of the system of equations allows one to establish requirements that are imposed on the parameters of the initial Hamiltonian and must be satisfied for the effective operation of the computer; it also demonstrates the possibility of a universal set of quantum operations. Thus, based on the proposed approach, the possibility of constructing a compact multiatomic ensemble based on quantum computer using a quantum transistor for the implementation of two-qubit gates has been demonstrated.

Quantum computer with atomic logical qubits encoded on macroscopic three-level systems in common quantum electrodynamic cavity

Farid Mansurovich Ablayev, S. N. Andrianov, Sergey A. Moiseev +1 more

We propose an effective realization of the universal set of elementary quantum gates in solid state quantum computer based on macroscopic (or mesoscopic) resonance systems — multiatomic coherent ensembles, squids or quantum dots in quantum electrodynamic cavity. We exploit an encoding of logical qubits by the pairs of the macroscopic two- or three-level atoms that is working in a Hilbert subspace of all states inherent to these atomic systems. In this subspace, logical single qubit gates are realized by the controlled reversible transfer of single atomic excitation in the pair via the exchange of virtual photons and by the frequency shift of one of the atomic ensembles in a pair. In the case of two-level systems, the logical two-qubit gates are performed by the controlling of Lamb shift magnitude in one atomic ensemble, allowing/blocking the excitation transfer in a pair, respectively, that is controlled by the third atomic system of another pair. When using three-level systems, we describe the NOT-gate in the atomic pair controlled by the transfer of working atomic excitation to the additional third level caused by direct impact of the control pair excitation. Finally, we discuss advantages of the proposed physical system for accelerated computation of some useful quantum gates.

Fast and robust two- and three-qubit swapping gates on multi-atomic ensembles in quantum electrodynamic cavity

Sergey N. Andrianov, Sergey A. Moiseev

Creation of quantum computer is outstanding fundamental and practical problem. The quantum computer could be used for execution of very complicated tasks which are not solvable with the classical computers. The first prototype of solid state quantum computer was created in 2009 with superconducting qubits. However, it suffers from the decoherent processes and it is desirable to find more practical encoding of qubits with long-lived coherence. It could be single impurity or vacancy centers in solids, but their interaction with electromagnetic radiation is rather weak. So, here, ensembles of atoms were proposed for the qubit encoding by using the dipole blockade mechanism in order to turn multilevel systems in two level ones. But dipole-dipole based blockade introduces an additional decoherence that limits its practical significance. Recently, the collective blockade mechanism has been proposed for the system of three-level atoms by using the different frequency shifts for the Raman transitions between the collective atomic states characterized by a different number of the excited atoms. Here, we propose two qubit gate by using another collective blockade mechanism in the system of two level atoms based on exchange interaction via the virtual photons between the multi-atomic ensembles in the resonator. Also we demonstrate the possibility of three qubit gate (Controlled SWAP gate) using a suppression of the swap-process between two multi-atomic ensembles due to dynamical shift of the atomic levels controlled by the states of photon encoded qubit.

Encoded Universality of Quantum Computations on the Multi-Atomic Ensembles in the QED Cavity

Farid Mansurovich Ablayev, Sergey N. Andrianov, Sergey A. Moiseev +1 more

We propose an effective set of elementary quantum gates which provide an encoded universality and demonstrate the physical feasibility of these gates for the solid-state quantum computer based on the multi-atomic systems in the QED cavity. We use the two-qubit encoding and swapping-based operations to simplify a physical realization of universal quantum computing and add the immunity to a number of errors. This approach allows to implement any encoded single-qubit operation by three elementary gates and the encoded controlled- NOT operation can be performed in a single step. The considerable advantages are also shown for implementing some commonly used controlled gates.

Quantum computers on multiatomic ensembles in quantum electrodynamic cavity

S. N. Andrianov, Sergey A. Moiseev

Schemes for the construction of quantum computers on multiatomic ensembles in quantum electrodynamic cavity are considered. With that, both encoding of physical qubits on each separate multiatomic ensemble and logical encoding of qubits on the pairs of ensembles are introduced. Possible constructions of swapping (SWAP, $\sqrt {SWAP} $ ) and controlled swapping gates (CSWAP) are analyzed. Mechanism of collective blockade and dynamical elimination procedure are proposed for realization of these gates. The comparison of the scheme solutions is carried out for the construction of quantum computer at using of physical and logical qubits.

Atomic quantum transistor based on swapping operation

Sergey A. Moiseev, Sergey N. Andrianov, E. S. Moiseev

We propose an atomic quantum transistor based on exchange by virtual photons between two atomic systems through the control gate-atom. The quantum transistor is realized in two QED cavities coupled in nano-optical scheme. We have found novel effect in quantum dynamics of coupled three-node atomic system which provides control-SWAP(θ) processes in quantum transistor operation. New possibilities of quantum entanglement in an example of bright and dark qubit states have been demonstrated for quantum transport in the atomic chain. Potentialities of the proposed nano-optical design for quantum computing and fundamental issues of multi-atomic physics are also discussed.
