Abstract

We study the ordered state of the quasi-one dimensional S = 1/2 XXZ spin model in magnetic fields by using quantum Monte Carlo simulations based on the directed-loop algorithm. The H-T phase diagram is illustrated and we find that an incommensurate long-range-ordered state is stable in a certain low-magnetized region. The result of the finite-size scaling analysis indicates that the finite temperature transition to the incommensurate order is of the first order.

Exotic Finite-Temperature Phase Diagram for Weakly CoupledS= 1/2 XXZ Chain in a Magnetic Field

Takafumi Suzuki, Naoki Kawashima, Kohichi Okunishi

We investigate the ordered state in S = 1/2 XXZ spin chains with weak interchain couplings in a magnetic field by using quantum Monte Carlo simulations based on the directed-loop algorithm. The H – T phase diagram is illustrated for a square lattice and we find that an exotic spin-liquid state with quasi long-range incommensurate correlations in both the spin-chain and interchain directions may appear in the low-magnetization region without a finite-temperature transition. We also show that the incommensurate long-range-ordered state is stable for a cubic lattice.

Quantum Monte Carlo study on commensurate–incommensurate transition in the spin-1/2 XXZ chain at finite temperatures

Masamichi Nishino, Kazumitsu Sakai, Masahiro Shiroishi +1 more

A crossover phenomenon of the longitudinal spin–spin correlation function is investigated on the spin-1/2 XXZ chain in a magnetic field at finite temperatures. A commensurate–incommensurate transition of the correlation function in the asymptotic behaviour has been pointed out by Klumper et al in the framework of the quantum transfer matrix method. We show the field dependence and the anisotropy-constant dependence of the critical temperature by the quantum transfer matrix method. Using a quantum Monte Carlo method with the continuous time loop algorithm, we directly observe the commensurate–incommensurate transition. Detailed quantum Monte Carlo analyses for the longitudinal spin–spin correlation in both the high and low temperature regions are presented. Especially in the low temperature region, evaluating the precise distance dependence of the correlation function, we prove that the incommensurate oscillation has detectable amplitude, which has not been estimated before. We also estimate the phase factor of the incommensurate oscillation, which accurately coincides with the one from the quantum transfer matrix method.

Quantum Monte Carlo simulation of two-dimensional S=1/2 antiferromagnets with very weak easy-plane anisotropy

Alessandro Cuccoli, Tommaso Roscilde, V. Tognetti +2 more

We study the critical and thermodynamic properties of an S=1/2 two-dimensional quantum XXZ antiferromagnet with weak easy-plane anisotropy using the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method based on the loop-cluster algorithm. A detailed finite-size scaling analysis reveals that the model displays a finite temperature Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless (BKT) transition for anisotropy as small as 10−3, the dominant isotropic coupling. For larger anisotropy (10−2) we single out relevant features of anisotropic behavior that anticipate the BKT transition. Implications for experimental observation of a BKT phase in real magnets are discussed.

Field-induced incommensurate order for the quasi-one-dimensional XXZ model in a magnetic field

Kouichi Okunishi, Takahumi Suzuki

We investigate phase transitions of the quasi-one-dimensional $S=1∕2$ $XXZ$ model in a magnetic field, using bosonization combined with a mean-field treatment of the interchain interaction. We then find that the field-induced incommensurate order is certainly realized in the low-field region, while transverse staggered order appears in the high-field region. On the basis of the result, we discuss the field-induced phase transition recently observed for $\mathrm{Ba}{\mathrm{Co}}_{2}{\mathrm{V}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{8}$.

Finite-temperature dynamical magnetic susceptibility of quasi-one-dimensional frustrated spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets

No author provided

We study the dynamical response of frustrated, quasi-one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets at finite temperatures. We allow for the presence of a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. We concentrate on a model of weakly coupled planes of anisotropic triangular lattices. Combining exact results for the dynamical response of one-dimensional Heisenberg chains with a random-phase approximation in the frustrated interchain couplings, we calculate the dynamical susceptibility in the disordered phase. We investigate the instability of the disordered phase to the formation of collective modes. We find a very weak instability to the formation of incommensurate magnetic order and determine the ordering temperature and wave vector. We also determine the effects of uniform magnetic fields on the ordering transition.
