Abstract

A model that describes the multiphoton interaction of a two-level atom with a large period quantized standing wave field beyond the Raman-Nath regime is solved exactly by the Wei-Norman's operator factorization method, and the momentum distribution of the atom is discussed. We also investigate the dynamics of the atomic population inversion and field second-order correlation function. They exhibit very remarkable behavior due to the inclusion of atomic translational motion.

Deflection of an Atomic Beam in a Large Period Quantized Standing Light Wave

Xiaoguang Wang, Chang-Pu Sun

By using the Wei-Norman's method, the deflection of an atomic beam with a large period quantized standing light wave is analyzed for the case with two-level atom and single-mode cavity field. It is concluded that after passing through the standing light wave in cavity, the atomic beam is split into infinite beams symmetrically, and each momentum shift for a split component is proportional to the interaction time. It is also shown that the output momentum distribution of atoms is sensitive to the statistical properties of the cavity field.

Quantum theory of a micromaser operating on the atomic scattering from a resonant standing wave

Farhan Saif, Fam Le Kien, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

We study the amplification of a resonant standing-wave light field due to the interaction with a beam of monovelocity two-level atoms moving in the Raman-Nath regime and in the Bragg regime. The atomic density is low so that, at most, one atom is inside the cavity at a time. This system is very similar to the well-known micromaser but it is operating in the optical region of the field frequencies. Therefore, the situation corresponds to a microlaser. Unlike the micromaser system, the momentum transfer between the atoms and photons in the microlaser essentially effects the center-of-mass motion of the atoms and the evolution of the field.

Dynamics for a two-atom two-mode intensity-dependent Raman coupled model

Sudha Singh, Karuna Gilhare

We study the quantum dynamics of a two-atom Raman coupled model interacting with a quantized bimodal field with intensity-dependent coupling terms in a lossless cavity. The unitary transformation method used to solve the time-dependent problem also gives the eigensolutions of the interaction Hamiltonian. We study the atomic-population dynamics and dynamics of the photon statistics in the two cavity modes, and present evidence of cooperative effects in the production of antibunching and anticorrelations between the modes. We also investigate the effect of detuning on the evolution of second-order correlation functions and observe that the oscillations become more rapid for large detuning.

Transitions Between Quantized Standing Waves at Interactions with an Atom in the Raman–Nath Regime

G. A. Muradyan, L. R. Arzumanyan, A. Zh. Muradyan

The interaction of an atom with an electromagnetic field induces transitions between its quantized modes, in which cos- and sin-standing waves are chosen as the basis for quantization. The number of photons in the modes were calculated in the Raman–Nath regime in the approximation of adiabatic following. It is shown that in the course of transitions an initially populated mode is generally not completely emptied, and the oscillating part of photons increases with the total number in the system.

Arc field states, photon statistics probes and quantum lenses: field evolution and atomic motion in a dispersive interaction model

Fam Le Kien, Karl Vogel, Wolfgang P. Schleich

We study the interaction of a quantized single-mode standing-wave cavity field with a two-level atom de Broglie wave. For the sake of simplicity we consider the field to be far detuned and the atom to be moving in the Raman - Nath regime. We show that the Wigner function of the field is a superposition of the Wigner functions for the coherent states aligned on an arc in phase space. The back action of the measurement of the atomic internal state leads to the modification of the diagonal as well as of the off-diagonal elements of the field density matrix. We investigate the formation of nonclassical field states via atomic deflection and internal-state measurement and show that the coherence of the field and the interference between the constituent coherent states disappear in the limit of large interaction times. The width of the atomic momentum distribution allows us to determine the mean photon number and the width of the photon distribution. We find that, for an appropriate choice of the initial state of the atomic centre-of-mass motion, the form of the atomic momentum distribution is identical to that of the photon distribution. The field near a node or an antinode acts as a focusing or defocusing lens for atoms, depending on the detuning and on the initial internal state of the atom.

Solution to Nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings Models with Nonlinearities of both Two-Mode Field and Atom-Field Interaction

Yu Wan‐Lun

We use the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant and superoperator methods to solve the system of the interaction of a two-level atom with two modes of a quantized field via multiphoton process, including any form of both intensity-dependent interaction and nonlinearity of the two-mode radiation field. The corresponding general atom-field wave function and time evolution operator as well as the time-evolving expressions for both the atomic inversion and the photon numbers of two modes field are evaluated.
