Amplification of entangled states of squeezed light

Abstract

Two amplification schemes are considered for entangled squeezed states of light, including an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entangled state of continuous variables (EPR pair): propagation in a nonlinear medium and reflection from a cavity. Both schemes make use of a parametric process that can be implemented in a periodic nonlinear medium. The existence of an integral of motion makes it possible to amplify an entangled state of light while preserving the initial entanglement. To analyze the cavity-based scheme, a master equation is derived for the density matrix of the field inside the cavity. The feasibility of amplification that preserves entanglement of an EPR pair is demonstrated for this scheme.

Amplification of two-mode squeezed light in the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen State

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko

Two schemes for amplifying two-mode squeezed light in the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state, where quantum correlations are conserved due to the presence of integrals of motion, while the power of each wave can increase, are considered. The first scheme is based on the parametric three-photon interaction in a transparent nonlinear medium. The second scheme is a variant of the resonance interaction with an atomic ensemble.

Amplification of entangled light upon reflection from a cavity with nonlinear medium

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko, E. S. Yakovleva

The kinetic equation for the case of reflection of a broadband entangled light of a nondegenerate parametric source from a cavity is derived with the use of the technique of stochastic differential Ito equations. Statistical properties of the light reflected from a cavity with a nonlinear transparent medium, in which the process of special parametric interaction occurs, are considered on the basis of the obtained equation. Due to the integrals of motion, the entangled light, which is an EPR pair of continuous variables, can be amplified without destruction of the quantum correlation.

On Amplification of Light in the Continuous EPR State

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko

Two schemes of amplification of two-mode squeezed light in the continuous variable EPR-state are considered. They are based on the integrals of motion, which allow conserving quantum correlations whereas the power of each mode may increase. One of these schemes involves a three-photon parametric process in a nonlinear transparent medium and the other is a Raman type interaction of light with atomic ensemble. A generalization to multimode squeezed light is discussed.

Conservation of quantum correlations of squeezed light in the process of nonlinear interactions

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko

Optical processes in which the quantum correlations of squeezed light in an entangled state of the type of an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pair or a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger triplet will be conserved in consequence of the presence of integrals of motion are considered. For the cases of parametric three-photon interaction in a transparent nonlinear medium and of resonant interaction with an atomic ensemble, it was found that, along with the conservation of the entangled state, the amplification of the light power arises.

Continuous-variable entanglement in a two-mode lossy cavity: An analytic solution

Colin Vendromin, Marc M. Dignam

Continuous-variable (CV) entanglement is a valuable resource in the field of quantum information. One source of CV entanglement is the correlations between the position and momentum of photons in a two-mode squeezed state of light. In this paper, we theoretically study the generation of squeezed states, via spontaneous parametric down conversion, inside a two-mode lossy cavity that is pumped with a classical optical pulse. The dynamics of the density operator in the cavity is modeled using the Lindblad master equation, and we show that the solution to this model is the density operator for a two-mode squeezed thermal state, with a time-dependent squeezing amplitude and average thermal photon number for each mode. We derive an expression for the minimum correlation variance inside the cavity that depends crucially on the difference in the losses between the two modes. We apply our analytic solution to the important example of a microring resonator that is pumped with a Gaussian pulse. The expressions that we derive will help researchers optimize CV entanglement in lossy cavities.

Teleportation of continuous quantum variables using squeezed-state entanglement

Kok Win Goh, C. W. Chou, Tiancai Zhang +2 more

We report recent developments in our experiment to teleport light beams by utilizing Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entanglement for continuous quantum variables. We describe details of our experimental apparatus, including the generation of EPR entanglement from squeezed states of light. In addition, we have developed an explicit model for the teleportation of coherent states that includes the effect of diverse loss factors and limited degrees of entanglement, and that enables us to project the possibilities for achieving yet higher fidelities beyond the currently achieved value of 62% with our apparatus. Propects for other teleportation schemes will also be discussed.
