Investigation of giant pulse of coherent emission by ensemble of quantum dots

Abstract

The phase analysis of dynamical equations of polarization of an ensemble of quantum dots and population difference of electron levels has been carried out. Under conditions of either correlations of parameters or external permanent pumping, it has been shown that the coherent radiation occurred in the mode of giant pulse regardless of cavity detuning and coupling parameters. The comparation with the experiment data has also been carried out.

Dynamics of quantum dot superradiance

Vyacheslav I. Yukalov, Elizaveta P. Yukalova

The possibility of realizing the superradiant regime of electromagnetic emission by the assembly of quantum dots is considered. The overall dynamical process is analyzed in detail. It is shown that there can occur several qualitatively different stages of evolution. The process starts with dipolar waves triggering the spontaneous radiation of individual dots. This corresponds to the fluctuation stage, when the dots are not yet noticeably correlated with each other. The second is the quantum stage, when the dot interactions through the common radiation field become more important, but the coherence is not yet developed. The third is the coherent stage, when the dots radiate coherently, emitting a superradiant pulse. After the superradiant pulse, the system of dots relaxes to an incoherent state in the relaxation stage. If there is no external permanent pumping, or the effective dot interactions are weak, the system tends to a stationary state during the last stationary stage, when coherence dies out to a low, practically negligible, level. In the case of permanent pumping, there exists the sixth stage of pulsing superradiance, when the system of dots emits separate coherent pulses.

Model of the Two Level Quantum Dots Ensemble Interacting with Ultra-Short Pulse of Coherent Radiation

Andrei I. Maimistov

Based on a model of strong coupling for two electrons that are localized inside a quantum dot characterized by only two levels of size quantization, a set of equations is derived, which allows one to describe coherent transient processes in an ensemble of isolated dots. Here one considered the case of ultrashort durations of electromagnetic field pulses, when the processes of polarization and population relaxation can be neglected. The resulting set of equations is a generalization of the Maxwell-Bloch equations, which are used in studying the processes occurring under the action of ultrashort electromagnetic pulses. The model obtained is reduced to the model of two-level atoms only if radiation is circularly polarized.

Coherent spin dynamics of electrons and holes in semiconductor quantum wells and quantum dots under periodical optical excitation: Resonant spin amplification versus spin mode locking

I. A. Yugova, Михаил Михайлович Глазов, Dmitri R. Yakovlev +2 more

The coherent spin dynamics of resident carriers, electrons, and holes in semiconductor nanostructures is studied theoretically under the conditions of periodical optical excitation using short laser pulses and in an external magnetic field. The generation and dephasing of spin polarization in an ensemble of carrier spins, for which the relaxation time of individual spins exceeds the repetition period of the laser pulses, are analyzed. Accumulation of the spin polarization is manifested either as resonant spin amplification or as mode locking of carrier spin coherences. It is shown that both regimes have the same origin, while their appearance is determined by the optical pump power and the spread of spin precession frequencies in the ensemble.

Model of the two level quantum dots ensemble interacting with coherent radiation

Andrey I. Maimistov, Elena V. Kazantseva, S. O. Elyutin

We consider the model of quantum dots interacting with coherent radiation when the relaxation processes may be neglected. The system under investigation consists of two discrete energy levels of the quantum dots in the presence of strong electron-electron Coulomb interaction and the transitions between these levels in response to electromagnetic radiation. By using the suitable generalisation of the Hubbard model the system of equations describing the evolution of the state of quantum dot was derived.

Emission spectrum in dissipative cavities coupled with quantum dots

Yang Zhang, Shuchen Lü

Abstract In this paper, the properties of emission spectra of dissipative cavities coupled with quantum dots were studied. The effects of the cavity incoherent pump rate on the emission spectra of the system are discussed. We found that the incoherent pump rate can enhance the fluorescence emission in dissipative cavities coupled with quantum dots and the result can be confirmed in experiment. In addition, the effects of the coupling strengths between quantum dot and cavity field, and between the two cavities on the emission spectra of the system also are discussed. Our results show that in the case of no matter resonance or off-resonance, the triple peaks should occur in theory when the single-mode cavity coupled with a double-level system is affected by external coherent fields and we also demonstrate that the Rabi splitting increases with the coupling strengths between quantum dot and cavity field or between the two cavities increase.
