Nonlinear Response of a Three-level System Driven by a Trichromatic Field and Probed by an Arbitrary Intense Monochromatic Field

In this paper,we discussed the electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) in three-level system driven by a trichromatic field.Firstly,we studied the transitions in three-level system driven by a trichromatic field and probed by a monochromatic field.Based on that,we wrote out the density matrix equation. Then we solved the equations by the method of numerical calculation and drawing the absorption and dispersion spectra. Two characteristic features are found. One is that the central transparency can be made by controlling the phases of excitation components and the other is that we can get different lineshapes of absorption and dispersion spectra by changing the relative phases of two sideband excitation components to the central component.

Nonlinear resonances in polarization spectrum of three-level atom, interacting with weak polychromatic fields

A. G. Antipov, I V Korshok, N. I. Matveeva +4 more

For three-level system of atoms interacting with polychromatic fields, the system of differential equations of the density matrix is analytically solved and the polarization spectrum of the components of the probe field is calculated. Supernarrow resonances in polarization spectrum at the frequency of the probe field occur at multiple harmonics, subharmonics, and on a frequency that is mirror-to-field.

Absorption spectra of two-level atoms interacting with a strong polychromatic pump field and an arbitrarily intense probe field

Tai Hyun Yoon, Myung Sai Chung, Hai-Woong Lee

A numerical method is introduced that solves the optical Bloch equations describing a two-level atom interacting with a strong polychromatic pump field with an equidistant spectrum and an arbitrarily intense monochromatic probe field. The method involves a transformation of the optical Bloch equations into a system of equations with time-independent coefficients at steady state via double harmonic expansion of the density-matrix elements, which is then solved by the method of matrix inversion. The solutions so obtained lead immediately to the determination of the polarization of the atomic medium and of the absorption and dispersion spectra. The method is applied to the case when the pump field is bichromatic and trichromatic, and the physical interpretation of the numerically computed spectra is given.
