Matrix elements of off-diagonal operator equivalents

Abstract

A simple derivation of off-diagonal operator equivalents and their matrix elements is given in the framework of Schwinger's coupled boson representation of angular momentum theory. The operator equivalents are up to a factor identical with those recently given by Atkins and Seymour, but they are derived differently without making use of properties of spherical harmonics, symmetrization, 3j coefficients and the Wigner-Eckart theorem.

Two-dimensional harmonic oscillator matrix elements, hyperbolic angular momentum and spherical harmonics

Wolfgang Witschel

Schwinger's coupled-boson representation of spherical and hyperbolic angular momentum is related to spherical harmonics and is used for the calculation of matrix elements. It is shown that radial matrix elements of the two-dimensional isotropic oscillator and the closely related hydrogenic matrix elements are proportional to 3j-symbols. Matrix elements of exponentials of hyperbolic angular momentum operators which form a formal analogy to the well known rotation matrice d mm' j ( theta ) and which are written as t mm jj' ( theta ) are derived. As only elementary algebra and some operator formulae are used, the algebraic method supplements analytical and group theoretic methods.

A SIMPLE DERIVATION OF THE WIGNER-ECKART THEOREM

Huang Shi-zhong

Based on the commutation relations between the components of an irreducible tensor operator of rank k and the angular momentum operator, a simple derivation of the Wigner-Eckart theorem is presented with the aid of the properties of angular momentum operators and their eigenstates.

Products of generalized equivalent operators in angular momentum theory

Serge Luryi

Generalized operator equivalents to the (bipolar) spherical harmonics [Formula: see text] are considered, viz. Matrix Representation of the Angular Momentum Projection Operator

Joseph Y. Shapiro

Formulas are obtained which give the matrix representation, relative to a product basis, of the projection operator for the total angular momentum of a system. If the individual angular momenta are not too large, the matrix elements depend upon a small number of parameters, independent of the number of angular momenta coupled. Recurrence relations between elements and symmetry properties of elements are derived. These results enable one to perform the vector coupling of a large number of angular momenta in a relatively simple fashion. The connection between the matrix elements and vector coupling coefficients is discussed. Several important special cases are treated in detail.

Feynman Transformation Matrix Element for a type of Hamiltonian of Angular Momentum system

Hong-Yi Fan

Using the technique of integration within ordered product (IWOP) of operators and the Schwinger boson representation for the angular momentum theory as well as the coherent state's method, we evaluate the Feynman transformation matrix element for the angular momentum system whose Hamiltonian is (A, B, C real). The eigenstate of H is derived and the comparison between it and the coherent state is made.
