Dynamics of localized states in N = 4 SUSY QM

Abstract

A consistent approach is offered for investigating the temporal dynamics of localized states. It is based on exactly solvable quantum mechanical models with multi-well potentials and the associate propagators. The Hamiltonian states with multi-well potentials form an adequate basis for expanding wave packets (WP) of various types and degrees of localization. Special features of WP tunneling have been studied with due regard for all Hamiltonian states with symmetric and asymmetric potentials.

Dynamics of localized states in extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics with multi-well potentials

Victor P. Berezovoj, M. I. Konchatnij

In this paper we propose a self-consistent approach to the description of temporal dynamics of localized states. This approach is based on exactly solvable quantum mechanical models with multi-well potentials and their propagators. States of Hamiltonians with multi-well potentials form a suitable basis for the expansion of wave packets with different shapes and localization degrees. We also consider properties of the tunneling wave packets, taking into account all states of Hamiltonians with symmetric and asymmetric potentials. The study of the dynamics of initially localized states shows that application of the two-state approximation for the description of tunneling is considerably limited, especially for systems which have several states in the under-barrier region, as for example in modern superconducting quantum interference devices and traps for cold atoms.

Tunneling dynamics in exactly solvable models with triple-well potentials

Victor P. Berezovoj, M. I. Konchatnij, A. J. Nurmagambetov

Inspired by new trends in atomtronics, cold atom devices and Bose–Einstein condensate dynamics, we apply a general technique of N = 4 extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics to isospectral Hamiltonians with triple-well potentials, i.e. symmetric and asymmetric. Expressions of quantum-mechanical propagators, which take into account all states of the spectrum, are obtained, within the N = 4 SQM approach, in the closed form. For the initial Hamiltonian of a harmonic oscillator, we obtain the explicit expressions of potentials, wavefunctions and propagators. The obtained results are applied to tunneling dynamics of localized states in triple-well potentials and for studying its features. In particular, we observe a Josephson-type tunneling transition of a wave packet, the effect of its partial trapping and a non-monotonic dependence of tunneling dynamics on the shape of a three-well potential. We investigate, among others, the possibility of controlling tunneling transport by changing parameters of the central well, and we briefly discuss potential applications of this aspect to atomtronic devices.

Investigation of the dynamics of physical systems by supersymmetric quantum mechanics

Andrey M. Pupasov-Maksimov, B. F. Samsonov, Jean-Marc Sparenberg

Relations between propagators and Green functions of Hamiltonians which are SUSY partners have been obtained. New exact propagators for the family of multi-well, time-dependent and non-hermitian potentials have been calculated. Non-conservative SUSY transformation has been studied in the case of multichannel Schrodinger equation with different thresholds. Spectrum (bound/virtual states and resonances) of the non-conservative SUSY partner of zero potential has been founded. Exactly solvable model of the magnetic induced Feshbach resonance has been constructed. This model was tested in the case of Rb$^{85}$. Conservative SUSY transformations of the first and the second order have been studied in the case of multichannel Schrodinger equation with equal thresholds. Transformations which introduce non-trivial coupling between scattering channels have been founded. The first order SUSY transformation which preserves $S$-matrix eigen-phase shifts and modifies mixing parameter has been founded in the case of two channel scattering with partial waves of different parities. In the case of coinciding parities we have found the second order SUSY transformation which preserves $S$-matrix eigen-phase shifts and modifies mixing parameter. Phenomenological two channel $^3S_1-^3D_1$ neutron-proton potential has been obtained by using single channel, phase equivalent and coupling SUSY transformations applied to zero potential.

Tunneling dynamics of squeezed states in a potential well

Alan Lenef, Stephen Colby Rand

WKB calculations have revealed that tunneling dynamics of localized wave packets in simple potential wells depend sensitively on the degree of squeezing of the wave function. Squeezed states are shown to tunnel more slowly in general than eigenstates of the well and states which are initially localized near the bottom of a well have much lower tunneling rates than states localized at the sides of the well. The dependence of tunneling time on energy also exhibits steps related to quasi-bound-state energies in a complex way. Additionally, modulations in the tunneling probability correlate with the motion of the squeezed wave packet in the well. These results have implications both for the dynamics of squeezed radiation fields and squeezed matter states, and examples of applications to controlled vibrational-state chemistry, ultralow-noise measurements of weak signals with Josephson junctions, and optical crystals are discussed.

Tunneling in asymmetric double-well potentials

Jerome H. Weiner, Simon T. Tse

Methods previously developed for the case of a symmetric double-well potential are here extended to study tunneling in an asymmetric, piecewise harmonic, double-well potential. The approach involves the decomposition of the real stationary states into complex right- and left-moving states and the determination of exact transmission coefficients for the latter. Numerical solutions for a selection of representative parameter values are obtained for the time evolution of states which correspond initially to a Gaussian wave packet localized in the upper well. Both resonant and nonresonant cases are studied and the significance of the transmission coefficient is established for each.

Classical stochastic dynamics and extended $N = 4$ supersymmetric quantum mechanics

Victor P. Berezovoj, G. I. Ivashkevych

This work is aimed at demonstrating the possibility to construct new exactly-solvable stochastic systems by use of the extended supersymmetric quantum mechanics ($N=4 SUSY QM$) formalism. A feature of the proposed approach consists in $N=4 SUSY QM$ the fact that probability densities and so obtained new potentials, which enter the Langevin equation, have a parametric freedom. The latter allows one to change the potentials form without changing the temporal behavior of the dispersion function.
