Abstract

We have investigated photoassociation (PA) spectra of ultracold $^{88}\mathrm{Sr}$ atoms near the $5{s}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}S_{0}+5s5p\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}P_{1}$ atomic asymptote. The intensity modulation of the PA lines was used to reconstruct the ground-state scattering wave function, whose last nodal point was determined to be ${r}_{0}=3.78(18)\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{nm}$. The PA lines also determined a precise lifetime of the $^{1}P_{1}$ state to be $5.263(4)\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{ns}$.

Wave-Function Reconstruction for the Determination of the Scattering Length of Sr

Masami Yasuda, T. Kishimoto, Masao Takamoto +1 more

We have investigated the photoassociation (PA) spectra of ultracold $^{88}$Sr atoms near the $5s^2 ^1S_0+5s5p ^1P_1$ atomic asymptote. The intensity modulation of the PA lines was used to reconstruct the ground-state scattering wave function, whose nodal point inferred the s-wave scattering length of $a=1.1(2)$ nm. The observed PA resonances also determined a precise lifetime of the $^1P_1$ state to be 5.263(4) ns.

Photoassociative spectroscopy of Sr87

We demonstrate photoassociation (PA) of ultracold fermionic $^{87}\mathrm{Sr}$ atoms. The binding energies of a series of molecular states on the $^{1}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}_{u}^{+}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}5{s}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{1}S_{0}+5s5p\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{1}P_{1}$ molecular potential are fit with the semiclassical LeRoy-Bernstein model, and PA resonance strengths are compared to predictions based on the known $^{1}S_{0}+^{1}S_{0}$ ground-state potential. Similar measurements and analysis were performed for the bosonic isotopes $^{84}\mathrm{Sr}$ and $^{86}\mathrm{Sr}$, allowing a combined analysis of the long-range portion of the excited-state potential and determination of the $5s5p\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{1}P_{1}$ atomic state lifetime of $5.20\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\mathrm{ns}$. The results enable prediction of PA rates across a wide range of experimental conditions.

Two-photon photoassociative spectroscopy of ultracold Sr88

Y. N. Martinez de Escobar, Pascal G. Mickelson, Philippe Pellegrini +5 more

We present results from two-photon photoassociative spectroscopy of the least-bound vibrational level of the $X\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}^{1}\ensuremath{\Sigma}_{g}^{+}$ state of the $^{88}\mathrm{Sr}_{2}$ dimer. Measurement of the binding energy allows us to determine the $s$-wave scattering length ${a}_{88}=\ensuremath{-}1.4(6){a}_{0}$. For the intermediate state, we use a bound level on the metastable $^{1}S_{0}\text{\ensuremath{-}}^{3}P_{1}$ potential, which provides large Franck-Condon transition factors and narrow one-photon photoassociative lines that are advantageous for observing quantum-optical effects such as Autler-Townes resonance splittings.

Spectroscopic Determination of the s -Wave Scattering Lengths of Sr86 and Sr88

Pascal G. Mickelson, Y. N. Martinez, A. D. Saenz +5 more

We report the use of photoassociative spectroscopy to determine the ground-state $s$-wave scattering lengths for the main bosonic isotopes of strontium, $^{86}\mathrm{Sr}$ and $^{88}\mathrm{Sr}$. Photoassociative transitions are driven with a laser red detuned by up to 1400 GHz from the $^{1}S_{0}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}^{1}P_{1}$ atomic resonance at 461 nm. A minimum in the transition amplitude for $^{86}\mathrm{Sr}$ at $\ensuremath{-}494\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GHz}$ allows us to determine the scattering lengths $610{a}_{0}<{a}_{86}<2300{a}_{0}$ for $^{86}\mathrm{Sr}$ and a much smaller value of $\ensuremath{-}1{a}_{0}<{a}_{88}<13{a}_{0}$ for $^{88}\mathrm{Sr}$.

Photoassociative Spectroscopy as a Self-Sufficient Tool for the Determination of the Cs Triplet Scattering Length

Cyril Drag, B. Laburthe-Tolra, B. T'Jampens +4 more

In photoassociation spectroscopy, the line intensities of a given vibrational progression exhibit zero-signal modulation reflecting the node structure of the $s$-wave ground state wave function of two free colliding atoms. This leads to the determination of the scattering length. We performed photoassociation of cold Cs atoms polarized in the Zeeman sublevel $f\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}4$, ${m}_{f}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}4$. We analyzed the intensities of the lines associated with the ${\mathrm{Cs}}_{2}$ ${0}_{g}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ state dissociating to the ${6s}_{1/2}{+6p}_{3/2}$ asymptote. This yields a value of the Cs triplet state scattering length, ${a}_{T}{\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}\ensuremath{-}530a}_{0}$, while consistency requirements impose a value of the multipole ground state molecular coefficient, ${C}_{6}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}6510$ a.u.

Photoassociative spectroscopy in an intercombination-line magneto-optical trap has determined the ground state s-wave scattering lengths of 88Sr and 86Sr, and recent work with a crossed optical dipole trap allows us to study atoms in metastable states.
