Abstract

We investigate the color-locked twin-noisy-field correlation effects in third-order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of ultrafast polarization beats. We demonstrate a phase-sensitive method for studying the two-photon nondegenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) due to atomic coherence in a multilevel system. The reference signal is another one-photon degenerate four-wave-mixing signal, which propagates along the same optical path as the NDFWM signal. This method is used for studying the phase dispersion of the third-order susceptibility and for the optical heterodyne detection of the NDFWM signal. The third-order nonlinear response can be controlled and modified through the color-locked correlation of twin noisy fields.

Coherent Phase Control of Ultrafast Polarization Beats in Reverse V-Type Three-Level System

Ling Li, Nie Zhi-Qiang, Tong Jiang +5 more

We investigate the third-order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of femto- and atto-second polarization beats between the one-photon degenerate four-wave mixing process and the two-photon nondegenerate four-wave mixing process in the pure homogeneously-broadened reverse V-three-level using twin noisy fields. The third-order nonlinear response can be controlled and modified by the colour-locked correlation of twin noisy fields. Most importantly, the coherent phase control in optical heterodyne detection for studying the phase dispersion of the third-order susceptibility is demonstrated. The radiation-matter detuning oscillation is also considered in the frequency domain.

We investigate theoretieally the color-locked twin noisy field_correlation effects in fifth_order nonlinear absorption and dispersion of ultrafast polarization beats in the RV type system. We demonstrate a phase_sensitive method for studying the three_photon six_wave mixing due to atomic coherence in this multi_level system. In the limit of the narrowband and tail approximation, the fifth_order nonlinear coefficients are independent of the color_locked noisy lights. In broadband FWM and SWM signals show time asymmetry due to field_correlation,and RDO effect of frequency_time domain. Moreover, the polarization presents RDO oscillation in frequency_domain.The reference signal is a two_photon non_degenerate four_wave mixing signal, which propagates in the direction a little different from the optical path of the SWM signal. This method is used for studying the phase dispersion of the fifth_order dispersion and absorption and for the optical heterodyne detection of the three_photon SWM signal. The fifth_order nonlinear response can be controlled and modified through the color_locked correlation of twin noisy fields. The method of phase sensitive detection can be used to detect the nonlinear absorption and dispersion of the three_photon SWM.

Phase-sensitive detection of Raman-enhanced nondegenerate four-wave mixing

Xin Mi, Zuhe Yu, Qian Jiang +3 more

Based on the polarization interference between two four-wave mixing (FWM) processes, we demonstrate a phase-sensitive method for studying Raman-enhanced nondegenerate four-wave mixing (RENFWM). The reference beam is another FWM signal, which propagates along the same optical path as the RENFWM signal. We have employed this method to study the phase dispersion of the third-order susceptibility χ(3) and for optical heterodyne detection of the RENFWM signal.

Six-wave mixing phase-dispersion by optical heterodyne detection in dressed reverse N-type four-level system

Gan Chen-Li, Nie Zhi-Qiang, Ling Li +6 more

We have investigated the dressed effects of non-degenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) and demonstrated a phase-sensitive method of studying the fifth-order nonlinear susceptibility due to atomic coherence in RN-type four-level system. In the presence of a strong coupling field, NDFWM spectrum exhibits Autler–Townes splitting, accompanied by either suppression or enhancement of the NDFWM signal, which is directly related to the competition between the absorption and dispersion contributions. The heterodyne-detected nonlinear absorption and dispersion of six-wave mixing signal in the RN-type system show that the hybrid radiation-matter detuning damping oscillation is in the THz range and can be controlled and modified through the colour-locked correlation of twin noisy fields.

Rayleigh-enhanced attosecond sum-frequency polarization beats via twin color-locking noisy lights

Yanpeng Zhang, Chenli Gan, Long Li +7 more

Based on color-locking noisy field correlation, a time-delayed method is proposed to suppress the thermal effect, and the ultrafast longitudinal relaxation time can be measured even in an absorbing medium. One interesting feature in field-correlation effects is that Rayleigh-enhanced four-wave mixing (RFWM) with color-locking noisy light exhibits spectral symmetry and temporal asymmetry with no coherence spike at $\ensuremath{\tau}=0$. Due to the interference between the Rayleigh-resonant signal and the nonresonant background, RFWM exhibits hybrid radiation-matter detuning with terahertz damping oscillations. The subtle Markovian high-order correlation effects have been investigated in the homodyne- or heterodyne-detected Rayleigh-enhanced attosecond sum-frequency polarization beats (RASPBs). Analytic closed forms of fourth-order Markovian stochastic correlations are characterized for homodyne (quadratic) and heterodyne (linear) detection, respectively. Based on the polarization interference between two four-wave mixing processes, the phase-sensitive detection of RASPBs has also been used to obtain the real and imaginary parts of the Rayleigh resonance.
