Critical frontiers associated with the bond-diluted Ising ferromagnet on triangular and honeycomb lattices

Abstract

Within a real space renormalisation group framework (12 different procedures, all of them using star-triangle and duality-type transformations) the authors calculate accurate approximations for the critical frontiers associated with the quenched bond-diluted first-neighbour, spin-1/2Ising ferromagnet on triangular and honeycomb lattices. All of them provide, in both pure bond percolation and pure Ising limits, the exact critical points and exact or almost exact derivatives in the p-t space (p is the bond-independent occupancy probability and t identical to tanh(J/kBT)). The authors best numerical proposals lead to the exact derivative in the pure percolation limit (p=pc) and, in what concerns the pure Ising limit (p=1) derivative, to a 0.15% error for the triangular lattice and to a 0.96% error for the honeycomb one; in the intermediate region (pc<p<1), where the exact critical frontiers are still unknown, the worst error in the variable t (for fixed p) is estimated to be less than 0.27% for the triangular lattice and 0.14% for the honeycomb one.

Critical properties of site- and bond-diluted Ising ferromagnets

Julia M. Yeomans, Robin B. Stinchcombe

A position space renormalisation group technique (decimation) is used to treat site- and bond-diluted Ising ferromagnets on square and triangular lattices. In every case the renormalisation equations lead to two fixed points, one corresponding to the pure Ising system and one to percolation. Linearising around the fixed points, eigenvalues and hence the critical exponents nu T , nu P (correlation length), alpha (specific heat) and phi (crossover) are obtained. Numerical iteration of the recursion relations provides the critical curves. Values of critical temperatures, critical concentrations, exponents, and of limiting slopes of critical curves are in very satisfactory agreement with all known exact or series results. Points on the critical curve flow into the Ising fixed point under the transformation. The sign of the pure Ising exponent alpha is consistent with this flow for the site-diluted cases but not for the bond-diluted cases.

Criticality of the D=2 bond-dilute anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet

Ananias M. Mariz, Constantino Tsallis, A. O. Caride

The authors discuss the critical frontier and critical exponents associated with the quenched bond-dilute quantum anisotropic spin- 1 / 2 Heisenberg ferromagnet in square lattice. To perform the calculations, they extend (and analyse in some detail) an approximate real-space renormalisation group framework recently developed by some of the authors for the pure model. Whenever comparison with available exact results is possible, the agreement is either perfect or quite satisfactory. Some effort has been dedicated to the extraction of the main asymptotic behaviour of the critical frontier. Also several interesting quantum effects appearing in the composition laws of (Heisenberg) bond arrays are exhibited.

The 2D non self-dual Ising lattices: An exact renormalization group treatment

Tuncer Kaya

In this work, an exact renormalization group treatment of honeycomb lattice leading to an exact relation between the coupling strengths of the honeycomb and the triangular lattices is presented. Using the honeycomb and the triangular duality relation, the critical coupling values of honeycomb and triangular lattices are calculated exactly by the simultaneous solution of the renormalized relation and the duality relation, without using the so-called star-triangular transformation. Apparently, the obtained coupling relation is unique. It not only takes place the role of the star triangular relation, but it is also the only exact relation obtained from renormalization group theory other than the 1D Ising chain. An exact pair correlation function expression relating the nearest neighbors and the next nearest neighbor correlation functions are also obtained for the honeycomb lattice. Utilizing this correlation relation, an exact expression of the correlation length of the honeycomb lattice is calculated analytically for the coupling constant values less than the critical value in the realm of the scaling theory. The critical exponents [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are also calculated as [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text].

Approximate critical surface of the bond-mixed square-lattice Ising model

Silvio V. F. Levy, Constantino Tsallis, Evaldo M. F. Curado

The critical surface of the quenched bond-mixed square-lattice spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ first-neighbor-interaction ferromagnetic Ising model (with exchange interactions ${J}_{1}$ and ${J}_{2}$) has been investigated. Through renormalization group and heuristical procedures, a very accurate [error inferior to 3 \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ in the variables ${t}_{i}\ensuremath{\equiv}tanh(\frac{{J}_{i}}{{k}_{B}T})$] approximate numerical proposal for all points of this surface is presented. This proposal simultaneously satisfies all the available exact results concerning the surface, namely ${p}_{c}=\frac{1}{2}$, ${t}_{c}=\sqrt{2}\ensuremath{-}1$, both limiting slopes in these points, and ${t}_{2}=\frac{(1\ensuremath{-}{t}_{1})}{(1+{t}_{1})}$ for $p=\frac{1}{2}$. Furthermore an analytic approximation [namely, $(1\ensuremath{-}p)\mathrm{ln}(1+{t}_{1})+p\mathrm{ln}(1+{t}_{2})=\frac{1}{2}\mathrm{ln}2$] is also proposed. In what concerns the available exact results, it only fails in reproducing one of the two limiting slopes, where there is an error of 1% in the derivative: These facts result in an estimated error less than ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}$ (in the $t$ variables) for any point in the surface.

New clusters for the real-space renormalisation group

N -C Chao

The author proposes a new type of cluster in addition to those of Reynolds, Klein and Stanley for the square lattice and another in addition to those of Chao for the triangular lattice for a real-space renormalisation group approach for studying critical phenomena. Thus each lattice is associated with two types of clusters-the longitudinal and the diagonal. The results for the bond percolation and Ising fixed points obtained from the diagonal square and honeycomb clusters agree with the exact values to within 6-11% error; whereas those obtained from the longitudinal triangular and honeycomb clusters agree with the exact values to within 2-4.5% error. The critical exponents corresponding to the percolation and the Ising problems also show reasonably good results: in particular those calculated by using the longitudinal triangular cluster agree with the exact values to within 6.7% and 3.2% error respectively.
