Abstract

We study the energy eigenvalue and the yrast states for a harmonically two-component weak-interacting Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) when the intra-species and interspecies scattering length are different. The energy shift for different energy eigenvalues related to intra- and interspecies scattering lengths is calculated with the perturbation method. The actual yrast spectrum is more complicated than that when intra-species and interspecies scattering length are equal. The degenerated features disappear and so do the perfect symmetric features.

We study the energy eigenvalue problem and the yrast states for a harmonically trapped two-component weak-interacting Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) using an analytical method. The yrast states and energy eigenvalues for $L=0,1,2,3$ are given in a special case. We illustrate the different eigenstate behaviors between even L and odd L for the two-component BEC. The odd-even effect of the yrast spectrum in the two-component BEC is also pointed out.

Analytical method for yrast line states in the interacting two-component Bose-Einstein condensate

Bing-Hao Xie, Jing Hui

The yrast spectrum for the harmonically trapped two-component Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC), omitting the difference between the two components, has been studied using an analytical method. The energy eigenstates and eigenvalues for L = 0, 1, 2, 3 are given. We illustrate that there are different eigenstate behaviours between the even L and odd L cases for the two-component BEC in two dimensions. Except for symmetric states, there are antisymmetric states for the permutation of the two components, which cannot reduce to those in a single condensate case when the value of L is odd.

Stability of a Two-Component Bose-Einstein Condensate

Hirofumi Morise, Takeya Tsurumi, Miki Wadati

The stability of a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate is studied. Using the variational method, we investigate the stable and unstable conditions as functions of the particle numbers and the s-wave scattering lengths. We find that interaction between the different species of atoms (simply, interspecies interaction) has significant effects on the stability of each condensate.

Effect of the interspecies interaction on the density profiles of miscible two-species Bose–Einstein condensates

Abstract We study harmonically trapped two-species Bose–Einstein condensates within the Gross–Pitaevskii formalism. By invoking the Thomas–Fermi approximation, we derive an analytical solution for the miscible ground state in a particular region of the system’s parameter space. This solution furnishes a simple formula that relates the interspecies interaction strength to the second spatial moments of the density distribution of the minority condensate species. Accompanying numerical simulations confirm the accuracy of the solution and the interaction strength formula for sufficiently large numbers of condensed particles. The introduced formula may provide an additional scheme for determining interspecies scattering lengths that complements existing methods, such as those based on collective-excitation spectroscopy of the two-species condensates or on collisional measurements on thermal samples.

“Stability Signature” in Two-Species Dilute Bose-Einstein Condensates

We identify an eigenvalue associated with a dilute two-species Bose-Einstein condensate as the determiner of condensate stability. It plays the same role as the sign of scattering length in a one-species condensate. We predict that there is a range of interspecies interaction strength in which a sodium-rubidium mixture can be stable in a harmonic trap.
