Abstract

We discuss the recovery of two-mode squeezing when one mode is transmitted through an EIT medium and the other through an optical fiber. Strong and weak EPR criteria are used to test continuous-variable entanglement.

Effects of mismatched transmissions on two-mode squeezing and EPR correlations with a slow light medium

Sulakshana Thanvanthri, Jianming Wen, Morton H. Rubin

We theoretically discuss the preservation of squeezing and continuous-variable entanglement of two-mode squeezed light when the two modes are subjected to unequal transmission. One of the modes is transmitted through a slow light medium while the other is sent through an optical fiber of unit transmission. Balanced homodyne detection is used to check the presence of squeezing. It is found that loss of squeezing occurs when the mismatch in the transmission of the two modes is greater than 40% while near-ideal squeezing is preserved when the transmissions are equal. We also discuss the effect of this loss on continuous-variable entanglement using strong and weak Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen criteria and possible applications for this experimental scheme.

Continuous Variable Polarization Entanglement via the Kerr Nonlinearity in an Optical Fiber

Ruifang Dong, J. Heersink, Jun–ichi Yoshikawa +2 more

Continuous variable polarization states have attracted much attention due to their apparent applicability to quantum information networks. Polarization entanglement was presented by transformation of the well-known quadrature entanglement onto the polarization basis. The inseparability criteria as well as the EPR paradox criteria for Stokes operators were also demonstrated. In this paper the generation of such highly quantum correlated states using the interference of two fiber-based polarization squeezing sources is presented. This squeezing can be efficiently created based on the nonlinear effect experienced by ultra-short pulses in fused silica fibers. Two linearly orthogonal polarized modes with identical amplitudes propagate through a polarization maintaining fiber, they experience the same nonlinearity and the phase of the interference between them is controlled to achieve circularly polarized light at the output.

Entanglement degradation of a two-mode squeezed vacuum in absorbing and amplifying optical fibers

Scheel, S, Opatrny, T, Welsch, D G

Applying the recently developed formalism of quantum-state transformation of light at absorbing dielectric four-port devices [5], we calculate the quantum state of the outgoing modes of a two-mode squeezed vacuum transmitted through optical fibers of given extinction coefficients. Using the Peres-Horodecki separability criterion for continuous variable systems [4], we then compute both the maximal length of transmission of a two-mode squeezed vacuum through an absorbing system for which the transmitted state is still inseparable and the maximal gain for which inseparability can be observed in an amplifying setup. Finally, we estimate an upper bound of the entanglement preserved after transmission through an absorbing system. The results show that the characteristic length of entanglement degradation drastically decreases with increasing strength of squeezing.
