Abstract

We introduce a procedure which considerably simplifies the calculation of clusters like those commonly appearing in real-space renormalization-group treatments of bond-percolation and pure and random Ising and Potts problems. The method is illustrated through two applications for the $q$-state Potts ferromagnet.

Percolation renormalization-group approach to theq-state Potts model

Chin‐Kun Hu, Chi-Ning Chen

Based on the connection between the q-state Potts model (QPM) and the q-state bond-correlated percolation model (QBCPM), we have proposed percolation renormalization-group (PRG) methods to calculate the free energy, the critical point, and critical exponents for the QPM. Our methods are free from inconsistency in Larsson's method. We have carried out the ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{1}$\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{1}$ to ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{2}$\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{2}$ renormalization-group (RG) transformations in our methods for several values of original cell sizes ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{1}$ and final cell sizes ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{2}$ with various boundary conditions. We find that such RG transformations with large ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{1}$ and ${\ensuremath{\lambda}}_{2}$ and periodic boundary condition usually give accurate physical quantities for the QPM. The advantages and generalization of our approach are also discussed.

Renormalisation group approach for percolation-magnetic indices

L.G. Marland, Robin B. Stinchcombe

A renormalisation group approach developed for the percolation problem by Young and Stinchcombe (1975) is extended to yield magnetic indices. A real-space cluster calculation is carried out for the Ashkin-Teller-Potts model (Ashkin & Teller 1964, Potts 1952) with general S, allowing contact with results for the Ising model (S to 2) as well as with the previously published thermal indices of the percolation problem (S to 1). For the percolation problem, the magnetic index obtained is 2.06, about 10% larger than current series estimates, and results in gamma =2.87.

A real-space renormalization group for site and bond percolation

PETER J. REYNOLDS, Eugene Stanley, W. Klein

A real-space renormalization group is developed which renormalizes probabilities directly in the percolation problem. An exact transformation is given in one dimension, and a cluster approach is presented for other lattices. The results are in excellent agreement with series calculations for the critical percolation concentration p c (both site and bond), and in good agreement for the correlation length exponent nu p . Additionally, in one dimension, a field-like variable is included and the remaining exponents are calculated.

Monte Carlo renormalization-group analysis of percolation

Albert Brown, Alexander Edelman, Jason W. Rocks +2 more

We describe a Monte Carlo renormalization group approach to the calculation of critical behavior for percolation models. This approach can be utilized to determine the renormalized bond probabilities and the values of the critical exponents. We illustrate the method for two-dimensional bond percolation, but the method is also applicable to other percolation models and other dimensions.

Histogram Monte Carlo renormalization-group method for percolation problems

Chin‐Kun Hu

We present a histogram Monte Carlo method to calculate the existence probability ${\mathit{E}}_{\mathit{p}}$, the percolation probability P, and the mean-cluster size S for percolation problems as continuous functions of the bond or site probability p. We then use ${\mathit{E}}_{\mathit{p}}$ and P in a percolation renormalization-group method to calculate the critical point and exponents. Our method gives quite accurate results for percolation problems.

We introduce a procedure which considerably simplifies the calculation of clusters like those commonly appearing in real-space renormalization-group treatments of bond-percolation and pure and random Ising and Potts problems. The method is illustrated through two applications for the qqq-state Potts ferromagnet.

We present a histogram Monte Carlo method to calculate the existence probability Ep{\mathit{E}}_{\mathit{p}}Ep, the percolation probability P, and the mean-cluster size S for percolation problems as continuous functions of the bond or site probability p. We then use Ep{\mathit{E}}_{\mathit{p}}Ep and P in a percolation renormalization-group method to calculate the critical point and exponents. Our method gives quite accurate results for percolation problems.
