RENORMALIZED RPA AT FINITE TEMPERATURE

Abstract

A method taking account of a deviation of state occupation numbers from the thermal RPA prescriptions is elaborated to study collective excitations in hot nuclei. This thermal renormalized random phase approximation (TRRPA) is from Ken-Ji Hara and D.J. Rowe. In developing the TRRPA, a formalism of the thermofield dynamics (TFD) is used. Some numerical results are given for the SU(2) model.

Self-consistent random-phase approximation at finite temperature within the Richardson model

Nguyen Dinh Dang, K. Tanabe

The self-consistent random-phase approximation (SCRPA) is extended to nonzero temperature. Within the SCRPA, the collective dynamics of nucleon pairs is built on the occupation numbers that deviate from the Fermi-Dirac distribution as a result of temperature-dependent correlations beyond the RPA. The equations for single-particle occupation numbers are derived using the method of the double-time Green's functions. The approach is applied to the Richardson model of pairing. The results of numerical calculations for energies of states and occupation numbers, as well as for the thermodynamic quantities such as the excitation energy and heat capacity of the system, are compared with those obtained within the conventional RPA and the perturbative thermal SCRPA and with the exact results. We find that, overall, the SCRPA offers a better agreement with the exact results.

Nuclear Many-Body Problem at Finite Temperature: A TFD Approach

Daniel S. Kosov, Vdovin, A. I., Jochen Wambach

Based on the formalism of thermo-field dynamics a new approach for studying collective excitations in hot finite Fermi systems is presented. Two approximations going beyond the thermal RPA namely renormalized thermal RPA and thermal second RPA are formulated.

Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model at finite temperature

Aleksej Nikolaevich Storozhenko, Daniel S. Kosov, A.I. Vdovin

The Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model is used to examine the validity of some approximate methods in a many-body theory at finite temperatures. Namely, the thermal random phase approximation (TRPA) and the thermal renormalized random phase approximation (TRRPA) are studied. An average energy of the system, an average quasispin projection and a particle number variance are calculated within these approximation and exactly with the grand canonical ensemble partition function. On the whole the results of TRRPA are found to be in better agreement with the exact ones. The validity of the both approximation becomes better with increasing temperature as well as particle number.

TFD extension of a self-consistent RPA to finite temperatures

A.I. Vdovin, Aleksej Nikolaevich Storozhenko

The self-consistent RPA (SCRPA) developed by Schuck and coauthors is extended to finite temperatures. The corresponding equations are derived by using the formalism of thermofield dynamics. The intrinsic energy of a system is calculated as the expectation value of the Hamiltonian with respect to a T -dependent thermal vacuum state for a thermal-phonon operator. A nonvanishing number of thermal quasiparticles in the vacuum state are assumed. By virtue of the assumption, the thermal Hartree-Fock (HF) equations appear to be coupled to the equations of motion for phonon variables. The thermal occupation numbers are also calculated in a consistent way with the energies of the HF quasiparticles. The approximation is applied to the two-level Lipkin model. Advantages of the thermal SCRPA (TSCRPA) are most obvious at temperatures near the phase-transition point. In the TSCRPA, the phase transition occurs at lower T than in other approximations. Moreover, within the TSCRPA, a statistical behavior of the Lipkin model is described with an appropriate accuracy at any T even if the HF transformation parameter is kept fixed at a value corresponding to the “spherical” phase of the HF field.

Self-consistent RPA with multilevel pairing model at finite temperature

Aleksej Nikolaevich Storozhenko, A.I. Vdovin, Peter Schuck

A self-consistent version of the thermal random phase approximation (TSCRPA) is developed within the Matsubara Green’s function formalism. The TSCRPA is applied to the many-level pairing model, and the normal phase of the system is considered. The TSCRPA results are compared with the exact ones calculated for the grand canonical ensemble. Advantages of the TSCRPA over the thermal mean-field approximation and the standard thermal random phase approximation are demonstrated. Results for correlation functions, excitation energies, etc., as a function of temperature are presented.

ON THE TFD TREATMENT OF COLLECTIVE VIBRATIONS IN HOT NUCLEI

Alan A. Dzhioev, A.I. Vdovin

The approach in a theory of collective excitations in hot nuclei exploring the formalism of thermo field dynamics and the model Hamiltonian consisting of a mean field, the BCS paring interaction and long-range particle-hole effective forces is reexamined. In contrast with earlier studies it is found that a wave function of a thermal phonon is depended not only on the Fermi-Dirac thermal occupation numbers of Bogoliubov quasiparticles consisting the phonon but on the Bose thermal occupation numbers of the phonon as well. This strongly affects a thermal phonon couplings due to renormalizing of a phononphonon interaction and enlarging the number of thermal two-phonon configurations coupled with one-phonon ones. Moreover, it is shown that the formulation of the double tilde conjugation rule for fermions proposed by I. Ojima is more appropriate in the context of the present study than the original one by H. Umezawa and coworkers. 1.
