Phase diagram of the one-dimensionalt-Jmodel

Abstract

The phase diagram of the one-dimensional t-J model is investigated by analyzing the results of exact diagonalization and the exact solutions at J/t=0 and 2. Phase separation takes place above a critical value of J around ${\mathit{J}}_{\mathit{c}}$/t=2.5--3.5 depending on the electron density. In the small-J region, Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory holds and its correlation exponents are calculated as a function of J/t and the electron density. Superconducting correlations become dominant in a region between the solvable case (J/t=2) and phase separation. A spin-gap region is also found at low density.

Spin-gap state and superconducting correlations in a one-dimensional dimerizedt-Jmodel

Masatoshi Imada

The phase diagram of one-dimensional dimerized t-J model is investigated by exact-diagonalization, quantum tranfer-matrix, and quantum Monte Carlo methods. The spin gap persists near but away from half-filling as well as in a strongly dimerized region, while the charge can be described as a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid in the entire region. The spin-gap region extends to the weak-dimerization region as well as to the Haldane-gap region. Critical exponents of various correlation functions are discussed. The pairing correlation shows remarkable enhancement and by far dominates over other correlations near half-filling. At quarter filling, charge-gap formation is observed.

Thermodynamics and crossover phenomena in the correlation lengths of the one-dimensionalt-Jmodel

Jesko Sirker, Andreas Klümper

We investigate the thermodynamics of the one-dimensional $t\ensuremath{-}J$ model using transfer matrix renormalization group algorithms and present results for quantities like particle number, specific heat, spin susceptibility, and compressibility. Based on these results we confirm a phase diagram consisting of a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) phase for small $J/t$ and a phase-separated state for $J/t$ large. Close to phase separation we find a spin-gap (Luther-Emery) phase at low densities consistent with predictions by other studies. At the supersymmetric point we compare our results with exact results from the Bethe ansatz and find excellent agreement. In particular we focus on the calculation of correlation lengths and static correlation functions and study the crossover from the nonuniversal high-$T$ lattice into the quantum critical regime. At the supersymmetric point we compare in detail with predictions by conformal field theory and TLL theory and show the importance of logarithmic corrections.

Luttinger-liquid behavior and superconducting correlations int-Jladders

C A Hayward, Didier Poilblanc

The low-energy behavior of the isotropic t-J ladder system is investigated using exact diagonalization techniques, specifically finding the Drude weight, the charge velocity, and the compressibility. By applying the ideas of Luttinger-liquid theory, we determine the correlation exponent ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\rho}}}$ which defines the behavior of the long-range correlations in the system. The boundary to phase separation is determined and a phase diagram is presented. At low electron density, a Tomonaga-Luttinger-like phase is stabilized while at higher electron densities a gapped phase with power law pairing correlations is stabilized: A large region of this gapped phase is found to exhibit dominant superconducting correlations. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Spin-Gap Phase in the One-Dimensionalt-J-J′Model

Masaaki Nakamura

The spin-gap phase of the one-dimensional t-J-J' model is studied by the level-crossing of the singlet and the triplet excitation spectra. The phase boundary obtained between the Tomonaga-Luttinger and the spin-gap phases is remarkably consistent with the analytical results at the $J,J'\to 0$ and the low-density limits discussed by Ogata et al. The spin-gap phase has a single domain in the phase diagram even if the spin gap opens at half-filling. The phase boundary coincides with the $K_ρ=1$ line where the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid behaves as free electrons, in the low-density region. The relation between our method and the solution of the two-electron problem is also discussed.

Luttinger-liquid instability in the one-dimensionalt-Jmodel

C. Stephen Hellberg, E. J. Melé

We study the t-J model in one dimension by numerically projecting the true ground state from a Luttinger-liquid trial wave function. We find the model exhibits Luttinger-liquid behavior for most of the phase diagram in which interaction strength and density are varied. However, at small densities and high interaction strengths a new phase with a gap to spin excitations and enhanced superconducting correlations is found. We show that this phase is a Luther-Emery liquid and study its correlation functions.

Spin gap and superconductivity in the one-dimensionalt-Jmodel with Coulomb repulsion

Matthias Troyer, Hirokazu Tsunetsugu, Thomas Maurice Rice +2 more

The one-dimensional t-J model with density-density repulsive interactions is investigated with the use of exact-diagonalization and quantum Monte Carlo methods. A short-range repulsion pushes phase separation to larger values of J/t, and leads to a widened precursor region in which a spin gap and strengthened superconducting correlations appear. The correlation exponent is calculated. On the contrary, a long-range repulsion of form 1/r suppresses superconductivity in the precursor region.
