Adiabatically preparing quantum dot spin states in the Voigt geometry

Emmanuel Paspalakis, Sophia E. Economou, F. Carreño

We use mutually delayed and partially overlapping optical pulses, similar to those used in stimulated Raman adiabatic passage and its variations, for the coherent control of quantum dot spin states in the Voigt geometry. We consider the quantum dot system initially in an incoherent mixture of the two electron-spin states. We show that the application of regular delayed and partially overlapping pulses can lead to initialization. In addition, if initially delayed, partially overlapping, and simultaneously switched off pulses are applied, the initially incoherent mixture can be changed to a specifically designed coherent superposition state. We also find that due to the initial conditions of the studied quantum system, the proposed methods work for different pulse orderings.

Superpositions of chiral amplitudes

Jeffrey A. Cina, Robert A. Harris

A recent analysis has suggested that a version of femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy, in which both pulses are themselves optical phase-controlled pulse pairs, would be useful in preparing and measuring chiral coherences. These coherences are absent in a racemic mixture or an incoherent sum of left- and right-handed states. Here we discuss the preparation of chiral coherences and the observation of their degradation via interaction with a low temperature medium.

Coherent Raman scattering with incoherent light for a multiply resonant mixture: Theory

Jason C. Kirkwood, Darin J. Ulness, Michael J. Stimson +1 more

The theory for coherent Raman scattering (CRS) with broadband incoherent light is presented for a multiply resonant, multicomponent mixture of molecules that exhibits simultaneous multiple resonances with the frequencies of the driving fields. All possible pairwise hyperpolarizability contributions to the signal intensity are included in the theoretical treatment---(resonant-resonant, resonant-nonresonant, and nonresonant-nonresonant correlations between chromophores) and it is shown how the different types of correlations manifest themselves as differently behaved components of the signal intensity. The Raman resonances are modeled as Lorentzians in the frequency domain, as is the spectral density of the incoherent light. The analytic results for this multiply resonant mixture are presented and applied to a specific binary mixture. These analytic results will be used to recover frequencies and dephasing times in a series of experiments on multiply resonant mixtures.
