We show that, if one combines the Jaynes-Cummings and anti-Jaynes-Cummings dynamics in a trapped-ion system driven by a laser, additional series of collapses and revivals of the vibrational state of the ion can be generated.
We propose a method to accelerate the revival of ion Rabi oscillation in a trapped ion system. Suitable manipulation of the frequency of the driven laser field permits us to switch from Jaynes–Cummings to off-resonant interaction. The combination of Jaynes–Cummings model and the off-resonant model induces some interesting characteristics of the ion-trap system, particularly the accelerated revival of the population of trapped ions. The amplitude of this revival is sensitive to the change of the laser frequency.
The Lindblad approach to open quantum systems is introduced to study the dynamics of a single trapped ion prepared in nonclassical motional states and subjected to continuous measurement of its internal population. This results in an inhibition of the dynamics similar to the one occurring in the quantum Zeno effect. In particular, modifications to the Jaynes-Cummings collapses and revivals arising from an initial coherent state of motion in various regimes of interaction with the driving laser are dealt with in detail.
We have investigated the position-dependent dynamics of a trapped ion in a standing wave laser by transforming it to the Jaynes-Cummings-type system under the Lamb-Dicke limit. A variety of novel phenomena are exhibited, e.g. periodic collapse and revival features and long-time scaled revivals of the ionic inversion, depending on its position in the standing wave. Our result provides a way of producing a system equivalent to the two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model in the trapped ion system, with its exact periodicities.
