The Structural Origin of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle - Infinite-Dimensional Reality and Its Analytic, Functional, Geometric, and Algebraic Foundations

ming Cheng

This work develops a unified structural explanation of Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle based onthe infinite-dimensional nature of physical reality and its mathematical representation. Quantumstates are intrinsically wave-like and must be described by functions rather than finite-dimensionalvectors, forcing the use of an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. Within this framework, fourindependent but mutually reinforcing structures emerge: analytic non-commutativity ofmultiplication and differentiation, Fourier duality and the mutual broadening of a function and itstransform, the symplectic geometry of phase space and its minimal area constraint, and thealgebraic rigidity encoded in the Weyl relations and the Stone–von Neumann theorem. Theselayers form a logical chain from finite-dimensional impossibility to infinite-dimensional necessity, revealing the uncertainty principle as a structural feature of the physical world. The paper furtherdiscusses extensions to the generalized uncertainty principle and the infinite-dimensionalstructure of quantum field theory.

海森堡不确定性原理的来源: 物理世界的无限维结构与其数学呈现; The Origin of Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle: The Infinite-Dimensional Structure of the Physical World and Its Mathematical Representation

ming Cheng

This work develops a unified ontological account of the origin of Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. Quantum states possess wave-like, nonlocal, and coherent properties, and their intrinsic structure is that of an uncountably infinite-dimensional function space. This infinite-dimensional nature manifests mathematically through Hilbert space, the non-commutativity of multiplication and differentiation operators, the Fourier-induced broadening between position and momentum, and the symplectic geometry of phase space with its minimal area elements. The paper identifies four structural roots of the uncertainty principle: (1) the algebraic impossibility of realizing canonical commutation relations in finite dimensions, (2) the analytic necessity of non-commutativity in infinite dimensions, (3) the functional necessity of Fourier broadening, and (4) the geometric necessity of symplectic incompressibility. The uncertainty principle thus emerges not as a mathematical artifact, but as the natural mathematical expression of the infinite-dimensional structure of the physical world. This work proposes a unified structural and ontological framework for understanding the uncertainty principle, integrating algebraic, analytic, functional, and geometric layers into a single explanatory chain.

Quantum mechanics as an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system with uncertainty structure: Part I

Renzo Cirelli, Alessandro Manià, Livio Pizzocchero B

Schrödinger quantum mechanics is formulated as an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system whose phase space carries an additional structure (uncertainty structure) to account for the probabilistic character of the theory. The algebra of observables is described as an algebra of smooth functions on the quantal phase space, with a product naturally induced by the geometrical structures living on that manifold. The possibility of generalizing Schrödinger mechanics along these lines is discussed.
