Quasiparticles operators in conformal field theories

Abstract

Gauge invariant fermion fields in fermionic coset models play a central role in the quasiparticle description of certain Conformal Field Theories (CFT’s). We briefly outline the description for unitary minimal models, and show how spinon fields in SU(N)1 Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) theories appear naturally within this scheme.

Spinons as Composite Fermions

D. C. Cabra, G. L. Rossini

We show that gauge invariant composites in the fermionic realization of SU (N)1 conformal field theory explicitly exhibit the holomorphic factorization of the corresponding WZW primaries. In the SU (2)1 case we show that the holomorphic sector realizes the spinon Y( sl 2) algebra, thus allowing the classification of the chiral Fock space in terms of semionic quasiparticle excitations created by the composite fermions.

Physical combinatorics and quasiparticles

Giovanni Feverati, Paul A. Pearce, Nicholas S. Witte

We consider the physical combinatorics of critical lattice models and their associated conformal field theories arising in the continuum scaling limit. As examples, we consider A-type unitary minimal models and the level-1 Wess–Zumino–Witten (WZW) model. The Hamiltonian of the WZW model is the invariant XXX quantum spin chain. For simplicity, we consider these theories only in their vacuum sectors on the strip. Combinatorially, fermionic particles are introduced as certain features of RSOS paths. They are composites of dual-particles and exhibit the properties of quasiparticles. The particles and dual-particles are identified, through a conjectured energy-preserving bijection, with patterns of zeros of the eigenvalues of the fused transfer matrices in their analyticity strips. The associated ( m , n ) systems arise as geometric packing constraints on the particles. The analyticity encoded in the patterns of zeros is the key to the analytic calculation of the excitation energies through the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA). As a by-product of our study, in the case of the WZW or XXX model, we find a relation between the location of the Bethe root strings and the location of the transfer matrix 2-strings.

Spinons in conformal field theory

Denis Bernard, Vincent Pasquier, Didina Serban

We study the su(2) conformal field theory in its spinon description, adapted to the Yangian invariance. By evaluating the action of the Yangian generators on the primary fields, we find a new connection between this conformal field theory and the Calogero-Sutherland model with su(2) spin. We use this connection to describe how the spinons are the quasi-particles spanning the irreducible Yangian multiplet, and also to exhibit operators creating the N-spinon highest weight vectors.

An introduction to 2d conformal field theory

Satoshi Nawata, Runkai Tao, Daisuke Yokoyama

These lecture notes provide a comprehensive introduction to 2d conformal field theory, covering foundational topics such as free fields, minimal models, Zamolodchikov's $c$-theorem, Wess-Zumino-Witten models, modular invariant partition functions, and the connections to entanglement entropy. The material presented is based on lectures at the Southeast University Summer School and the course at Fudan University.

Conformal field theory on the plane

Sylvain Ribault

We review conformal field theory on the plane in the conformal bootstrap approach. We introduce the main ideas of the bootstrap approach to quantum field theory, and how they apply to two-dimensional theories with local conformal symmetry. We describe the mathematical structures that appear in such theories, from the Virasoro algebra and its representations, to BPZ equations and conformal blocks. Examples include Liouville theory, (generalized) minimal models, free bosonic theories, the $H_3^+$ model, and the $SU_2$ and $\widetilde{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ WZW models. We also discuss relations between some of these models, and limits of these models when the central charge and/or conformal dimensions tend to particular values.

Spinons as Composite Fermions

D. C. Cabra, G. L. Rossini, La Plata

We give an explicit holomorphic factorization of SU(N)1 WZW primaries in terms of gauge invariant composite fermions. In the N = 2 case, we show that these composites realize the spinon algebra. Both in this and in the general case, the underlying Yangian symmetry implies that these operators span the whole Fock space. 1
