Abstract

The exact solution for the spontaneous emission from N identical two-level atoms prepared initially to a symmetrical Dicke state with only one atom excited, which was obtained in our previous paper for the case of a perfectly tuned damped cavity, is generalized to the case of a detuned cavity. By using analytic and numerical results the effects of the detuning and the number N of atoms on the spontaneous emission are discussed.

Single-atom spontaneous emission in a detuned cavity

JOSIP SEKE

By using a new technique an exact differential equation of fourth order for the atomic population inversion is derived in the case of single-atom spontaneous emission in a detuned cavity. The numerical solutions for the detuned and tuned cavities are compared. The radiation rate decreases significantly if the detuning is large compared with the cavity damping.

N-atom spontaneous emission in a detuned damped cavity

JOSIP SEKE, Frank Rattay

An exact closed system of linear differential equations of the first order, which can be expressed by a simple recurrence equation, is derived for matrix elements of the statistical density operator. This exact recurrence equation opens the way for numerical solutions for collective many-atom spontaneous emission in cavities with arbitrary damping and detuning. For the first time to the authors’ knowledge, numerical results are presented for N = 10 and N = 15. Moreover, the influence of the cavity damping and detuning on the collective spontaneous emission is discussed. New effects, such as the suppression of the superfluorescent effects in strongly detuned cavities, are also pointed out.

Spontaneous emission spectrum of a two-level atom in a very-high- Q cavity

Alexia Auffèves, Benjamin Besga, Jean‐Michel Gérard +1 more

In this paper we consider an initially excited two-level system coupled to a monomode cavity, and compute exact expressions for the spectra spontaneously emitted by each system in the general case where they have arbitrary linewidths and frequencies. Our method is based on the fact that this problem has an easily solvable classical counterpart, which provides a clear interpretation of the evidenced phenomena. We show that if the cavity linewidth is much lower than the atomic linewidth, photons are emitted at the cavity frequency, even if the atom and the cavity are strongly detuned. We also study the links between the spontaneous emission spectra and the fluorescence spectra emitted when the atom is driven by a classical field of tunable frequency in the low excitation limit.

Exact Equations of Motion and Numerical Results for Two-atom Spontaneous Emission in a Damped Cavity

JOSIP SEKE, G. Adam, Otto Hittmaır

By using a new technique developed recently, exact closed equations of motion for expectation values for the spontaneous emission from two two-level atoms in a resonant damped cavity are derived. These equations are solved numerically for different values of the cavity damping. Moreover, different atom and field fluctuations are calculated numerically. A comparison is made with results obtained by Bonifacio, Schwendimann and Haake in the case of strong damping.

Collective collapses and revivals in spontaneous emission of a partially inverted system of two-level atoms: Analytical solution

M. Kozierowski, S. M. Chumakov, J. ŚwiatłLowski +1 more

Applying a perturbation method, constructed in terms of SU(2) group representations, we study spontaneous emission of a system of N identical two-level atoms immersed in a single-mode ideal cavity with s atoms initially inverted. For the cases s\ensuremath{\ge}3, characterized by nonequidistant spectra of the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian, the phenomenon of collective collapses and revivals manifests itself. For s=3 the approximate solution is compared with the exact one and the limit of good applicability of our method is established.
