Abstract

We propose a new scheme to avoid the declination of the two-photon nonlinearity (TPN) caused by effects of many degrees of freedom. We found two criterions for obtaining the efficient TPN by many three-level atoms in a cavity and estimated the optimized TPN.

Design of Many-Atom Cavity QED Systems for Strong Two-Photon Nonlinearity

Akira Ishikawa, Hajime Ishihara

We propose a new scheme for strong two-photon nonlinearity (TPN) by cavity QED systems with many three-level atoms, although the TPN due to the saturation effect of two-level atoms generally declines with an increase in the number of atoms. The reduction in anharmonicity by the increase in the number of atoms can be overcome if the system satisfies particular criteria. The new scheme is significant for realizing TPN devices using solid-state materials because it is generally difficult to control the number of atoms, which are few, introduced in the device.

Two-photon nonlinearity (TPN) has been investigated in the context of realization of a quantum logic gate, where the cavity QED system has been considered to realize a sufficiently strong TPN.

Scheme for Realizing Kerr Nonlinearity in Cavity QED

LU Dao-ming, Zheng Shi-Biao

We propose a scheme for realizing the Kerr-type nonlinearity for a cavity mode. In the scheme the cavity mode interacts with a single three-level atom dispersively. Under certain conditions, the evolution of the cavity field, decoupled from the atomic degree of freedom, corresponds to the Kerr effect. The scheme can be generalized to implement cross-Kerr effect and two-qubit phase gates for two cavity modes.

Two-photon nonlinearity in general cavity QED systems

Kazuki Koshino, Hajime Ishihara

We have investigated two-photon nonlinearity in general cavity QED systems, which cover both weak- and strong-coupling regimes and include the radiative loss from an atom. One- and two-photon propagators are obtained in analytical forms. By surveying both coupling regimes, we have revealed the conditions on a photonic pulse for yielding large nonlinear effects, depending on the cavity $Q$ value. We also discuss the effects of radiative loss on nonlinearity.

Two-Photon Blockade in an Atom-Driven Cavity QED System

Christoph Hamsen, Karl Nicolas Tolazzi, Tatjana Wilk +1 more

Photon blockade is a dynamical quantum-nonlinear effect in driven systems with an anharmonic energy ladder. For a single atom strongly coupled to an optical cavity, we show that atom driving gives a decisively larger optical nonlinearity than cavity driving. This enhances single-photon blockade and allows for the implementation of two-photon blockade where the absorption of two photons suppresses the absorption of further photons. As a signature, we report on three-photon antibunching with simultaneous two-photon bunching observed in the light emitted from the cavity. Our experiment constitutes a significant step towards multiphoton quantum-nonlinear optics.

Generation of four-photon W state via cavity QED

Zhong Zhi-Rong

This paper proposes an alternative scheme for generating four-photon W state via cavity QED. The scheme bases on the resonant interaction of a λ-type three level atom with two bimodal cavities. The detection of atom collapses the cavity to the desired state. Comparing with previous schemes, the advantage of this scheme is that the interaction time can be greatly shortened since it uses the resonant interaction between atom and cavities. Moreover, the proposed scheme is more experimentally feasible than the previous ones.
