One-Photon Femtosecond Laser Excitation of Photoluminescence from H3 and H4 Centers in Natural Diamond: A Method to Determine Their Concentration

Sergey Ivanovich Kudryashov, П. А. Данилов, Victor G. Vins +6 more

The photoluminescence spectra of the dominant H3 and H4 centers in a natural diamond sample, which is preliminarily characterized by optical and infrared spectrophotometry, are excited by femtosecond laser pulses with a wavelength of 470 nm and varying intensity. Saturation of the photoluminescence intensity of the H3 and H4 centers normalized by the intensity of laser radiation is observed and attributed to the saturation of the resonance transition responsible for the excitation. This makes it possible for the first time to estimate the absorption cross sections of H3 and H4 centers, which can be compared with values known from the literature and those determined from photoluminescence kinetics. The total concentration of H3 and H4 centers can then be found. Taking into account the known absorption coefficient of the sample at a wavelength of 470 nm and the previously established ratio of the contributions from H3 and H4 centers, their concentrations have been estimated separately for the first time.

Peculiarities of absorption and luminescence spectra of nitrogen-vacancy color centers in diamond crystals

Anton K. Vershovskii, Alexander K. Dmitriev

We have studied photoluminescence spectra of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers upon their pumping by short-wavelength visible and near-UV radiation. We have shown that NV 0 centers, as distinct from NV − centers have an absorption line in the UV range. Inversion of the zero-phonon line of NV − centers has been shown and interpreted.

Peculiarities of optical and ODMR Spectra of Nitrogen–Vacancy Color Centers in Diamond Crystals

Alexander K. Dmitriev, Anton K. Vershovskii

The optical and ODMR spectra of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond were investigated as applied to the development of micro-scale diamond magnetometer sensor. It is shown that the NV 0 center (unlike the NV − center) has an absorption line in the UV range. The inversion of the zero phonon line of the NV − center was observed and explained. ODMR signals in high magnetic fields (as compared with inner fields in the crystal) as well as in weak fields also were investigated. We propose the solution to the problem of the magnetometer sensitivity reduction at low magnetic field, that is of interest for quantum magnetometry applications.
