Abstract

In this paper we present a squeezing operator for a pulsed squeezed light and give the concise expressions and the features of the intensity and noise as a function of time and frequency for the pulsed squeezing field. The generation for pulsed squeezed state light (PSSL) has been studied. In this paper we present a ket for PSSL and give the concise expressions of the intensity and the noise as functions of time and frequency and discuss their frequency features. We also propose a scheme in which the pulse train and the frequency spectrum of the noise can be simultaneously determined.

GENERATION OF PULSED SQUEEZED LIGHT FIELD VIA FORWARD FOUR-WAVE MIXING

Lin-sheng He, JIANG HAI-HE, XIA YU-XING +1 more

A scheme is proposed, in which the pulse train of squeezed light is generated via forward four-wave mixing through a nonlinear medium with third-order polarizability, coherently pumped by a train of pulses of modelocked laser. One of the quadrature noise compoments of the squeezed light is measured with a balanced homodyne detector using a pulse train as the local oscillation. The theoretical results show that the fairly high-intensity output of squeezed light can be achieved, and the noise-power spectrum of the light is almost completely squeezed and exhibits the form of a train of pulses, but the shape of squeezed spectrum is reversed with respect to that of the pulse train of the input light.

Pulsed Squeezed Light

Richard E. Slusher, Philippe Grangier, Arthur LaPorta +2 more

Squeezed light in the form of a train of pulses, each approximately 100 ps in width, has been generated by parametric down-conversion in KTiOP${\mathrm{O}}_{4}$ crystals. The measured noise reduction in the quiet quadrature of the field is 0.6 dB below the shot-noise limit. The quadrature noise components are measured with a balanced homodyne detector using a pulse train for the local oscillator. The noise reduction extends over a broad spectrum and has important implications for precision measurement at very short time scales.

Pulsed squeezed-light measurement: a new technique

Orhan Aytür, Prem Kumar

A transient noise measurement scheme is described to observe pulsed squeezing generated by means of parametric downconversion of a Q-switched laser. In the usual implementation of balanced-homodyne detection, the vacuumstate noise level is determined by the average local oscillator power. However, if the local oscillator is derived from a pulsed laser, as is the case in our experiments, the associated peak power can easily saturate the detectors along with the subsequent electronics. To overcome this limitation we have implemented a hybrid frequency-time-domain measurement scheme in which the vacuum-state noise level is determined by the peak, instead of the average, local oscillator power, thus avoiding the saturation problem.

Generating and detecting short-duration pulses of squeezed light

Bernard Yurke, Philippe Grangier, Richard E. Slusher +1 more

Mode-locked lasers provide a train of high-intensity light pulses that can be used to pump nonlinear media in order to produce squeezed light. The squeezed light produced would consist of a train of short-duration pulses. It is shown here that a homodyne detector using a pulsed local oscillator can be used to observe the squeezing even when the response time of the photodetector is much longer than the local oscillator or squeezed light pulse width.

Generation of quadrature-squeezed light of ultrashort pulses in a medium with inertial cubic nonlinearity

A. S. Chirkin, F. Popescu

A consistent quantum theory of self-action and cross-interaction of coherent light pulses in a cubically nonlinear medium is developed by using the momentum operator of the field, which takes into account the inertial nonlinearity. Specific features of generation of the quadrature-squeezed states of light pulses are considered. The spectrum of fluctuations of a quadrature below the shot-noise level is analyzed as a function of the relaxation time of nonlinearity and the magnitude of nonlinear phase additions, related to the self-action and cross-interaction.

Squeezed States Engineering by Coherent Pulses Train Acting on Single Atom Laser

V. Stefanov, S. Ya. Kilin

We propose a method of squeezed light generation by a single-atom laser excited by \naperiodic train of coherent resonant pulses of various duration. The action of three pulses \ntrain has been analyzed and it is shown that the maximal squeezing is achieved not in the case \nwhen one creates maximal squeezing during action of each pulse but rather by a nontrivial \nsequence of pulses. This coherent pulses train is determined by solution of optimization \nproblem.
